You get what you pay for, folks...it is certainly well-priced but it is quite basic and not all that pretty. The rooms are definitely clean (but again, basic and thin-walled. i had a private room.), but the bathrooms were a bit grimey. Nothing some flip flops cant handle tho, really. The Casco Viejo was in a serious state of renovation when I was there and I had a sense it was gentrifying. The hostel street is a bit deserted, not super nice, but not dangerous. All in all, OK.

It was such a joy to find the late night reception at the Hostel (Internet registration needs a better way of advising of late arrival time.). Airport taxi driver had to try a few streets to find, but I brought the printed directions. Staff was GREAT and extremely helpful in rounding up other folks seeking to share a taxi to points of interest. I got to stay in the converted poolhouse-small dorm with it's own bathroom- AC very cold but blanket provided. Cold drinks and snacks on site.

Positives: 1. Location. Panama City is all over the place, but Casco Viejo is probably the best home base from which to explore and has some great restaurants and cafes. 2. Cost. Negatives: 1. The bathrooms were always dirty. 2. Staff are unhelpful---only one woman knows what is going on. 3. There are fans, but it gets hot. 4. They called a taxi they knew for me to get to the airport that was unsafe and rude. 5. I got eaten alive staying here by the bugs. Try Luna's first.

Having stayed last year at the Hospedaje Casco Viejo in a windowless room, I asked them for a room with a window this time. I didn't hold my breath but on my arrival, they directed me to the Panamericana to a room with a brilliant view of Plaza Herrera. So thanks for that---the Panamericana is a no-nonsense hostel with clean, very spacious rooms and a nice roof terrace, excellent value for money in this atmospheric part of Panama City.

I didn't get the room I asked for. The internet wasn't functioning. My room didn't have windows and because it was on the side of the road. All the noise came right in.

Worst hostel I've ever stayed in. Booked a 6 bed room, though there were 12 beds in it. Very tiny common area. Breakfast ok, but no space to eat; there were only 2 tables and 4 chairs. The only 2 toilets on the floor were either locked permanentely for no reason, or did't have any water running. The only good thing about that hostel was the location.

Great location in Casco Viejo. The staff seems nice but does not speak much English. The rooms are a little worn but clean. The bathrooms not so much but are passable. Some of the bathrooms were inexplicably locked at times, so you may have to wait for a bathroom. Note that there is an outdoor club a few doors down whose music you can hear from some of the rooms and it goes fairly late. It didn't bother me but light sleepers may want to bring earplugs.

A bare bones backpackers hostel. The price was right at $11 a pop for the 12-bed dorm and basic breakfast. Loved the location in the historic Casco Viejo. Rom was comfortable and clean. A few of the bathrooms were oddly locked and inaccessible a times, and the bathrooms that were open often lacked toilet paper and soap. A club on the next block plays very loud electronic dance music until all hours of the night, so if falling asleep to Avicii isn't your thing, bring earplugs.

It's not in the best part of town but not bad. The staff and people there were great.
