If you ask Shawn for tranport from the airport to the hostel he will pick you up for a small extra fee (cheaper than regular taxis).

Loved my stay here. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The waterfalls tour was AMAZING. Walking distance to the grocery store, bars and shopping. Just a quick bus ride to the beach. Very clean and cozy, would highly recommend staying here!

Property was extremely noisy. Our room had a hole in the roof the sun streaming in woke me up. The roof also flapped in the wind (noisily). Could hear showering in the bathroom from room.

To be clear, the room has a skylight and NOT a hole in the roof. Also, 90% of all roofs in Central America are metal and noisy during the windy season. PURA VIDA!!!

I actually really came to love this place. It was not only a great place to arrive to, but also a great place to reflect upon and proces my experience afterward. The staff is particularly extraordinary in their level of personal caring. Also well executed is the blend of welcoming and comfort while maintaining the reality of it being a "stop along the way." Professional and personal. Bravo.

Sean was very friendly and helpful. The gate is always locked so security is great. Close to the bus station. Worked out great as my last stay before heading to the airport.

We only stayed her in passing for one night but everything seemed clean and secure. The staff was friendly

Our 'private room' was acutally an old kitchen with a bed in it. Barely room for luggage or even standing. Not really close to anything. We only stayed one night so it was fine but not really up to standards of 30$ a night in CR.

Owner Comment (Show)
I am so sorry we did not meet your expectations. I wish you would have spoke directly with us because the hostel was not full the night you stayed and we could have easily moved you to another room. Typically, guests like the private room with air conditioning that you were in due to the fact that it was once the kitchen. They like having a sink and the counter space to spread out their personal items and luggage. Additionaly, I am not sure if there was confusion about the exchange rate but your air conditioned, private room was 13,500 colones which is about $26 with the current exchange rate. I also wish you had asked for directions because we are only 1 block from the bus station, ATM, city market and supermarket and 5 blocks from the city center. All the best in your future travels!

The place is in the perfect location, close to the airport and to the bus station. I is a clean, basic accommodations that is plenty adequate if you are passing through Liberia and need to crash for a night or two. The staff is very friendly and very helpful.

The owner was very helpful and great to chat with. This hostel was super close to the main bus station and within walking distance of downtown. Cute cats roamed free in the hostel. We loved having a private room for only $20 a night!

The hostel is dingy and on the outskirts of town. It is a 10-15 minute walk to get to the centre of Liberia. The staff was not very friendly or helpful. There is one toilet for six rooms and it was clogged for most of the day during our stay. There was no common area to meet other travellers. It is a cheap option, but there are better hostels with better value elsewhere in the city. It is not a welcoming, friendly or nice place to stay.

Owner Comment (Show)
Note to all future travelers: our common area is the back garden. It has kitchen, breakfast bar, chairs, tables and hammocks. We do not have an interior common room because we have 285 dry days a year and most guests enjoy being able to have a comfortable place to mingle outside. Also, we have 2 full bathes between 8 rooms. The second bath is off the garden to be convenient to the rooms located there. CHEERS!

My stay here was excellent! The owner really went out of his way to make our accommodations as best as possible. He took a group of us out to see some waterfalls and then finished it up with a nice dinner on top of a mountain overlooking Costa Rica. The hostel is located only a block away from a major bus station in Liberia and also from a grocery store. It is only about 30-minutes from the airport and you can arrange transportation with the owner, which is cheaper than a local taxi.

I am so happy you enjoyed your stay and the rivers and waterfalls tour. We had a great time swimming and cliff jumping even though you wouldn't go off the high jump! ;-) NEXT TIME!!!

We needed a better greeting when we arrived. Apparently there is a kitchen and garden but we were never shown it. Are there any communal rooms? We weren´t shown any, and it would be useful to meet other guests.

Owner Comment (Show)
I am so glad you pointed this out. I have instructed the staff to give each arriving guest a tour of the hostel at check in. Hopefully this will help each guest be able to find the bathrooms, kitchen and public area and navigate the hostel on their own. Cheers!

Helpful, informative owner and a good place to meet other travellers. The rooms are not very big but at these prices I have no complaints.

This was a great place to stay for ANYONE passing through LIR. I would recommend actually staying there for a couple of days and taking in some of the local sights. Ask Shawn for a tour around. He was a good host and the rate for the day was reasonable - such fun!

I enjoyed my stay at Hospedaje Dodero. The owners, Jesus and Shawn were very hospitable. I had a great time hanging out with them as well as other travelers that passed by during my stay. I would recommend this hostel to anyone needing a place to stay while passing through liberia.
