Great location. Owner is very friendly and helpful. Very relaxed place to stay with a lovely rooftop terrace to enjoy.

Erick is really warm and definitely makes you feel welcome at Akumal and ready to explore San Cris. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the terrace with hammocks, courtyard and breakfast are big pluses. And the dog is hella sweet.

Great homemade breakfast! Erick, the guy who owns this hostel is now on my favorite list, joining 4 others. Dog is awesome and very playful! I might be returning to San Cristobal again on my returning journey back to United States and I will definintely stay at Hostal Akumal again! I love the homemade breakfast! Joined Erick for couple of drinks at nearby bar and we had good time!

Everything you could ask for and more. Great owners who made you feel at home and made a brilliant breakfast. Loads of atmosphere from staff and people staying but you could also have a great sleep. We even got heart shaped cookies on Valentines day.

If you want a hostel at great value with all the charm of home, Hostal Akumal can't be beat. Wake up to a delicious breakfast (homemade marmelade and all!), laze the day away swinging in the hammocks on the sun roof or take advantage of all san cristobal has to offer (nothing more than ten minutes from your doorstep), end the day cozying up by the fire in the living room through the chill of the night. The staff is super friendly and good fun. The most at home I've felt in my travels.

It's the best hostel I've ever stayed in! The house is kept very pretty because the owners pay a lot of attention to details (plants, kitchen equipment, books, hammocks etc.) and in general are very helpful+caring hosts.I loved the atmosphere at this place cause it seems like living together with a bunch of great friends, sharing experiences + good moments. The breakfast is the best I've ever come across: delicious egg-dish, home-made marmalade, good milk-coffe etc. Thanks Akumal: I'll be back!!
