The staff were helpful, friendly, and joyful. We were fortunate that our double room was the only one occupied on a floor with only one bathroom. The bathroom would have been inadequate If the dorm had been in use. The bathroom had only one toilet, one shower, and one sink and they were all in the same room. Our double room had no closet, no place to keep our clothes, no place to hang clothes. The kitchen's propane tank for hot water was empty. Stove had no igniters and couldn't be lit.
We were staying in a Standard Double Bed Private Shared Bathroom, room number 2. It was very spacious. The bathroom had a bath for taking baths as well. Wifi extended to the room, but was unstable at times. The bedroom was big and had large windows facing the sun, so you could basically sunbathe in your own room, or close the double sunblocker windows to make the room completely dark. The hosts were extremely friendly and organized dinners for Christmas and New Year's Eve. Definitely recommend
Pros: Very friendly staff / Boiled eggs on breakfast / Quiet place / Comfortable bed and sheet. Cons: Kitchen is not open all the time (you have to ask staff to open it every time you want to get something). / Internet was not working in our floor. And they do not have elevator but it is ok just if you do not have heavy or big luggages - the house has just 3 floors.

The hostel is good for the price. and it has the largest bathroom i have ever seen during my stay in Latin American. The staff is also helpful. i will go back to this hostel for sure when i come back to Santiago.
Hostel was busier than the first time we stayed - with two main bathrooms upstairs you might have to wait to take a shower. The curfew at night can be a hassle if you arrive back late: we got back at 1am one night and had to wait 20 mins until a fellow guest answered the door to let us in. The breakfast is very good for the price you pay, kitchen has good facilities (Lider supermarket 5-10 mins walk away) . It's about a 30min walk to Santa Lucia, so a bit out of the way. Lovely parks nearby.
We only stayed at Hostal Villa America for one night as we were travelling to Easter Island. The hostel looks to be old mansion, refurbished. It is very spacious and the kitchen facilities were brilliant. The beds were really comfortable. There are plenty of really nice parks nearby. Mike let us have breakfast at 5.30am, out of hours. Best breakfast we've had in SA. Boiled eggs included in a hostel breakfast! With cereal! We've gotten use to only bread and coffee. We plan on going back.
