Decent hostel with a nice patio, good beds and a nice breakfast. Close to bottle shops, and small grocery stores, but a hike up the hill if you walk instead of taking the bus or cab. Some rooms are right next to the street, so it can be a bit noisy in the evening if you end up there, but if you have ear plugs, you will sleep like a baby. Good atmosphere, and helpful staff. I enjoyed the stay here, would recommend to friends and would certainly stay again.

Very helpful staff! Good location for a visit to Pablo Neruda's house. Asensor Espiritu is out of commision. Don't suggest using it in directions to get there. Very nice restaurant " Confiesa" nearby. Bathrooms could use an upgrade, especially shower cabinets.

The staff don't organize the rooms, the breakfast is do it yourself the "toast machine" is rudimentary and is no fair to wash the dishes for the breakfast (if i do it i must receive a discount) if i pay for a service, the hostel has misleading advertising because in the web because don´t say about it. The recepcionist (Debora) is rough and is moody I wouldn´t recommend this place.

This is a nice, secure place to stay with a nice dorm room and garden, as well as a good kitchen. However, I did not like that the staff were rarely manning the reception desk, so i always had to go off and find them. The hostel is high in the cerros of Valpo, and it´s quite a hike up there. But it seems relatively safe, and they offer a nice breakfast with bread, cereal, spreads, and even juice I think. Probably not the best for meeting people or partying, but a good place to stay otherwise.

Very nice staff, good rooms but unfortunately no view above the beautiful city. The breakfast was perfect ;)

This for me was the perfect little place to stay in Valparaiso. In a safe area of town, just a small descent (a hundred steps or so!) down to the centre of town. I loved the style of this place; a converted traditional manor house, not to mention the wide selection of media... DVDs galore and satellite TV. The beds were bigger then normal too and ever so comfy, the chest to store possesions at the end of them quaint too. The staff were more than helful and security of this place too.

Hostal Caracol is a very beautiful place to stay. The historic house is gorgeous, the kitchen is well equiped, the beds are comfortable and the staff is very nice and helpful. The hostel is situated in a historic part of town slightly up the hill. There is a church nearby and you can walk easily to the Pablo Neruda House and enjoy the views of the city and the sea.

Everything about the hostel was great except for a major problem, which most likely won't happen anytime soon: the locks had been changed while I was gone, and the receptionist who checked us in had not known about the change, so I came back to a door I could not open, and it took awhile to rouse the on-duty staff to let us in. Assuming this isn't a frequent issue, it's a great place to stay.

The hostel is 178 steps up from the main square and then continues up a steep hill. Having said this, it is well worth it and is in a safe part of town.

The dorm was spacious, with cool pirate chests to lock your gear in, although the bathroom could do with a bit of sprucing up. Nice common areas and a good breakfast. Its located in a quiet neighbourhood about 15 to 20 mins walk to the main action on Cerros Alegre and Concepcion. Staff were lovely. Only downside was a bit of a weird smell around the hostel.

We stayed for four nights in the 7 bed dorm. The beds were very comfortable with duvets, and there were large lockers for everyone. The communal areas were all very nice, 2 computers to use, wifi, dvd player, sat tv, good kitchen and an asado grill outside. We arrived at 7am in the morning and even had breakfast that day, nice touch. Location was very good, is up a hill but everything in Valparaiso is! Very helpful staff too. WOULD RECOMMEND.

Very nice hostel with cozy beds and a great breakfast (bread, cornflakes, fruit.. and not just one piece of boring toast). The staff were very friendly and the hostel has a beautiful garden. The location is nice, not far away from the center, up on a hill, so you have to climb some stairs but that's totally okay ;) Very recommendable!!
