Hostal el Balcon del Valle is a nice, clean and quiet place. A bit far from the centre though, and there is no (cosy) common place to relax.

We spent four nights there and we loved the place. The owner speaks excellent English and is very very helpful . We felt as in home. Excellent facilities and excellent atmosphere. It is calm and in 10 min walk from the main square. I would say this was one of the best hostels we stayed during our stay in Argentina! From Bulgaria

We loved our stay here, John the owner was very friendly and helpful. Very clean, safe and only a 10min walk from the main square. Not a party hostel if that is what you are looking for, but it is somewhere nice to stay in Salta!
