staff super friendly and helpful. they help you a lot with all the activities there are to do in Pucon. i stayed in the 6-bed tent in the backyard, can get cold at night. very small kitchen though, can get problematic at dinner time. atmosphere friendly and cool, their weekly BBQ organised are super fun! would suggest to stay here if in pucon, as it is so well located too

Really really good hostel!! The location is perfect, right next to the bus stations of the majority of bus companies (if not all of them) so it took us about 50 seconds to walk from the JAC bus station. Hostel is really nice, tents outside are cool, hammocks are cool, the dog (Negra) is also really cute! Thanks to Nathan, Dominiqie, Wes and Jams for helping make our stay so fun. Mitch and Ben

Great, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Good communal areas and well equipped kitchens. Outdoor bunks in permanent tent were much better than they sound. Indoor dorm has the biggest (widest) bunks I've seen in 8 years of travelling. Could do with a couple of extra bathrooms though.

Good or Bad Weather the Staff at El Refugio make sure you have every opportunity to have a great time. With plenty of experience they can provide first hand accounts and opinions on everything there is to do and see in and around Pucon. Atmosphere is great, so having a good time with everyone in the hostel is easy, BBQ's and such, hanging with other hostels, all good! I used no sarcasm! And ask James about getting Fish Tacoed, avoid at all costs! But not the Fish Tacos, you have to try those.

This hostel was unique in that it has two tents outside, behind the main buidling. I slept in the 3-person tent and it was the best sleep I had in weeks. It was different being locked out of the main buidling at night though. The staff was knowledgable a very fun - they added energy and character to the place. They provided detailed and neutral information on activities and bus companies - very helpful.

Could be cheaper and could have breakfast, but most hostels in Pucon have the same shortcomings. Good place to stay, only issue was the staff. While one girl (blonde, I think American/Canadian) was cool, another staff member had as his main agenda selling us on the hostel's excursions, and going on about how they were so much better than other companies and why. When it was clear we knew what we were doing and had already scheduled with a good company (Summit Chile) he laid off a little.

The staff here are the absolute standout. They give you detailed and honest descriptions of all the activities you can do in and around Pucon, and the hostel even runs their own tours for some, like the volcano assent. The staff also provided us with info, advice, and a tent rental for our own unguided multi-day hiking trip. The common area is awesome to hang out in, and the value of the accommodation is great, especially considering the prices of other hostels in town. James is great.

everything is nice for this hostel. staff are super helpful, they provided informative details around the region. they are also friendly. they have good kitchen. but only one toilet and bathroom. not really enough for all the guest. the main problem is just the atmosphere is too good that party went on until late night, and the wooden building is so sound transmitting

Perfect location near the bus station, shops, restaurants and the lake. The staff were all awesome and helpful with booking treks and excursions. There was a great atmosphere, very inclusive of everyone. The volcano trek was amazing, worth visiting Pucon for this alone. Only downside are the room prices but we did visit in high season.

Unfortunately the hostel double booked us and we were unable to stay there, but we got tourist advice and joined in on the social aspects of the hostel, which were great! Asado was ok, could of had more variety of meat, but the drinks were great! Dont reccomend the Volcano Tour - The owner was really rude and rushed us up and down the mountain, and did not care for less able people (2 in our group didnt complete because of this). No time to enjoy after as were pushed back onto the bus.

Dont come here if your planning on leaving its just too hard. Its a wonderfully set up hostel with great staff and a great overall friendly vibe. You can book your activities through them (we did horse riding and hydrospeeding - both of which were good) but others seemed to rave about the other activities also. I would highly suggest partaking in the bbq if your there when your having one. We stayed in both the tent and 8 door dorm both of which were good
