We only had one night in Quito so we wanted to stay near the old town. Hostel Marsella was perfectly placed. The owner provided us with a map on arrival and gave us some excellent local information on where to go. We cannot fault this place and will stay here again we return to Quito in a few nights.

This hostel is about a 15 minute walk to the new town and although it is ok to walk in the day you need to get a taxi back at night, this added at least $ 3 to our bill each night ($5 if I is past 1:00 am) pay a bit more and stay closer to the new town. This said this was a good no frills hostel for the price and we asked for a taxi for 5:30 am to take us to the airport and the driver was already waiting in reception when we got there.
Not the first time that I stayed here and it is by far the best value for money you can find in Quito, especially in such a location, both, close to the Historic Center as well as to the Mariscal. The staff and especially the boss is extremely friendly and every time I was here, I met super nice people!
We were two female travellers both 22 and felt very safe in this hostel. It is a Little away from the hustle and bustle of quito which was nice. The hostel owner, Isaac, gave us lots of advice about day trips and was always friendly and helpful. We ended up with a room with 2 doublé beds despite only having paid for singles. It was v clean and for $5 a night we cannot complain! The only thing to be advised about is not to order the airport pickup, we were left waiting when noboy turned up.
This hostel was comfortable for our stay in Quito. It is a bit of a walk from the Mariscal Sucre, the main tourist area, however close to the old town. The room was clean and comfortable, although the walls and windows were not soundproof at all so I did have to sleep with earplugs, and even they didn't drown out the noise of dogs barking outside throughout the night. There was a language barrier because no one speaks English. Even when we spoke Spanish they were quite useless and unhelpful.
Good value for money but poor internet connection. Pretty clean and quiet for the most part, other than when cleaning staff plays music at 7:30am every morning. Why can't they use headphones?

This is a really nice hostel. Do keep in mind though the owners speak Spanish, and nearly no English at all. There is no kitchen for you to use though you can order some food from them. If you go here definitely go up to the terrace on the roof, it is really nice and some people mist it because they simply didn't knew it was there. Wifi is good, considering you are in Ecuador. There is a Chinese-run restaurant nearby where you can eat a lot for nothing at all :)
At around 5am a woman that was coked out tried leaving the hostal. She continuosly rang the bell for about an hour. It was at about 6am that my boyfriend went to see what was going on and let her out, but the door was locked from the inside and none of the staff was too be found. That was worst amoungst a few other things - the beds were hard, it was hard to meet people, and a few unfriendly staff members etc. A hostal's guests may not be under their control, but letting them out is.
Very, very noisy - seemed mainly to come from the staff and their dogs, but there were the inevitable car horns.
Marsella is the best budget hostel on "Los Rios" (we tried 3 different there) - nice rooms, friendly staff, clean and safe, walking distance to the old town. We recommend staying there!
The staff was not very friendly or helpful, but it was safe and clean.
Very good value for our money! The first lady that did our check in was great and really helpful. The rest of the staff was ok, but not more. The room was clean and we felt safe. Excellent choice for Quito.
For this price and this location a perfect hostel. 3 Minutes to speed-bus-station and from there, you can reach every location, old town only 10 Minutes to walk.
Great place to stay, short walk to old town, has a coffee shop, roof terrace, laundry and security box. Good value.
We stayed here on two seperate visits to Bogota. Location is between old and new town and you can walk to both. Rooms are a good price! Warm showers. No wifi in bedrooms, only the hall. Staff were not very helpful but that did not bother us too much. We asked for an airport transfers but on the morning of our flight (the reason why we booked here - they offer it as a free service) but they said we had to take a taxi. They did not speak english so could not explain why.
My stay was fine (enough). But with the exception of the young girl who checked me in, I must say most of the other employees were not overly friendly.
The area isn't the safe. We were robbed in the 3rd day at an entrance door. The thief stole our camera. It happened at noon. On the street there were people. We don't recommend this hostel. We reserved the room from 2 beds. To us offered very noisy room on 1 floor. Then the room on the 5th floor (without the elevator). Then the room with 1 dvuspadny bed on the 3rd floor. We chose it. Room very small. Pure. We had no hot water. There is no place for a suitcase, there is no case or regiments.

lovely owner. even with my limited Spanish I was able to understand all his info and tips on what to see in quito and suggestions for cotopaxi. location is excellent right between old town and mariscal - we walked everywhere. basic bathrooms but fine. wonderful rooftop with views hammocks for that afternoon siesta.

Walking distance from the Old Quito and Mariscal. Really clean and safe. During our stay, we only had freezing water. Some beds are confortable, others aren't. The father is really nice, but the rest of the family taking care of the hostel seems to dislike tourists. No atmosphere, they close the common areas early. It's cheap, clean and well situated, but isn't a fun place.
