no lock on dorm door . quite a nice desert feel when you walk in. a short walk from town, but is nice to get your bearings of town in which you otherwise may not. Bike rental is convenient (make sure you ask for lock and chain, otherwise you cant go into the attractions - we left ours in places and it was fine). Owners don't speak Spanish but helpful.

It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the centre and in a bit of a random area with no restaurants or shops close by. However nice and quiet and lots of lovely outside areas with seats and hammocks - perfect for relaxing after long days and early starts doing activities near San pedro. Stayed in a double room with my girlfriend which was clean along with the bathroom. Hot water 24 hours a day was not enitrely true! The onwners were fine with us but do have very limited english!

Booked to stay at this hostel. Upon arriving into Atacama i saw that the place was a little bit out of the town center and it is so useful to be around that area, Knocked on the door at my arrival and no one answered the door. I was totally stuck and upon my knocking and only a guest woke up to say to keep it down when all i wanted to do was sleep. The next door neighbour was up and assisted me and took me to the city to find a place. Not very professional with no 24 hr reception. dont book here

not so easy to find but quiet and good hostel. The owners are a bit quiet and may seem a bit harsh.

good things: owners (speak only spanish) are nice and kindly bad things: our beds were dirty and overall it could be much more cleaner - even in san pedro!! the hostel is hard to find - better you arrange pick-up if you want to stay there, but it´s not to far from the center - 5 min. walking hostelworld-price for a dorm was 10.000 peso, at the hostel it´s only 8.000 peso the bikes they rented were good was not too bad, but would not stay there again. san pedro has better options

Although a bit far out of town, I was very happy with Nuevo Amanecer. The owners are very friendly and available when you need them, but stay out of the way for the most part. There are not lockers, but you lock your room everytime you leave, so as long as you can trust the people you're staying with the security it fine. I peaked into a few other hostels in town and they were not nearly was aesthetically pleasing or clean.

Nobody speaks English, but this warmful family was smiling and helpful to me. I managed to call the father and make him understand that I had arrived at the bus station where he picked me. The cleaning was done every day in my room, which is quite rare in Chile. The place is really charming, maybe a bit far from the city center which is reached by walking ten minutes but a grocery store is next to. Finally a kitchen is available for travelers and you can rent good bikes !

We booked hostel Nuevo Amanecer because there wasn't much other choice as to what was available for our dates. To be honest this hostel wasn't too much to rave about. It was about 5 mins walk out of town and there were no street lights down the street to walk home after dark. The hostel was very quiet and filled with families and quite a few older travelers. The rooms were decent but there were no lockers. It was good as a place to stay, but I wouldn't rush back there anytime soon.

Make sure that you arrive before dark, because the hostel is VERY hard to find, the map (printed from their website) is not accurate, the location on google map is wrong, and there's no light in the streets, not a even a sign with the name of the street. Inside, it's very nice , i really liked the interior decoration, rooms are clean, bathrooms are clean Only 2 bathrooms (with the toilets inside). NO LOCKERS and only one computer !!!
