I was happy with my stay at Hostal Panama. Daina is a lovely woman and instantly makes you feel at home. I felt very safe and comfortable leaving my belongings out. The location is in walking distance or a cheap taxi ride to anywhere. Not set up for lots of mingling, so I would say it is best for people trying to have a quieter weekend. Overall, happy with my stay :)

Very friendly crew and helpfull! Organize very cheap trips to Kuna Yala and we had let our luggage in the meantime there. Included breakfast, big fridge, kitchen for use and free internet! All rooms with aircond plus Speaking english very well. Just around the corner is the via Espana with all Bus connections incl. Albrook and Tocumen Airport(Metro Bus). And very important:only 500m is a Super99 Spermercado with always frio cerveza and all what you need!

The sheets and room were obviously not cleaned before we got there. It appeared like family members of the owners regularly sleep in the room we were staying in, as their things were hanging up on the door (i.e. bath robe) Bathroom was very dirty, and one of the staff members there was very rude to us. We paid $40 dollars for a tiny room that could barely fit our luggage in.

Owner Comment (Show)
This woman wanted to come at 4 o'clock in the moorning without pay. Check in is at 1:00 p.m. I toll her that they could come at 7:30 a.m. and leave their luggage and she write ordering the cancellation of their booking inmediatly. I told her if she wants to have a room at 4 in the morning have to book the night before. If that's being rude, sorry but I will be so with anyone that want to abuse of us It is a malicious comment. I can´t be nice with people that no show respect for us. Sorry. My family is my sister, nephew (10 years) and Niece (3 years old) and they have their room. She don´t pay nothing here. She come in the nigth asking about the room that she canceled before.

Sttaff was polite/helpful. Our disappointment was that based on the ratings of Hostelworld we expected a better facility. We are VERY frequent travelers & users of Hostelworld. This facility had the same ratings as other hostels we stayed at in Panama and was most definitely not comparable. The facility was secure, but dirty & desperately in need of updates. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls, bathrooms were dirty, chipped & dirty paint. No outside signage for taxi's to find. Disappointing.

There was a 'problem' with our reservation on arrival and we could not have the room we booked, we were offered another hostel or a single room (which we accepted after a full day travelling). We were then given a room but without bathroom, although our confirmation stated with bathroom the hostel received a booking for shared bathroom. One of the beds was very uncomfortable in this room. The staff were helpful when we needed help with post but we felt a little in the way in the family kitchen.

I've enjoyed my stay in this hostel. Though it's little bit far from the old city, taxis here as so cheap, you will be there in no time. Daina is amazing and she will try to help you with everything and anything as much as she can.

The two sisters that run this place are very helpful and friendly. They speak English and serve you like a royalty. The rooms are very simple but a working fan makes it not to warm. Good working wifi and good food and coffee
