It's a decent place to stay. The showers are warm but small, the blankets had a few stains but top sheets were clean. It was really cold in the rooms and the walls were really oddly constructed with random panels. The court yard and hangout areas were pleasant. It's a bit of a distance from the downtown area, not too far, 15min walk, but when you're lazy after a day of activities it's enough to possibly discourage you from a 15min walk down hill and eventually back up. area is safe.

This hostal is very cold and the room we stayed in was very run down and depressing - I felt like hanging myself after 2 days there. There were no hot water bottles available as advertised on sites like rough guide. The staff were very cold and unwelcoming. We had a private bathroom which was very dingy and had a shower that dribbled lukewarm water if you were lucky .The shower curtain was too short and the water leaked onto the floor and there was no way of drying it- a chronically flooded toilet

Nellie, the woman working during the day, was an angel. The man working at night, however, was dismissive and rude when my friend and I showed up at 5am due to an early bus arrival from Uyuni. He told us the hostel was booked when we asked to pay for a room to pass out for a few hours (check-in is 1pm, we only had the coming night booked)... Turns out the hostel had loads of empty rooms. Showers were filthy. Room smelled horrible, sheets were dishwater gray & pilled. Don't stay here!

Hostal Republica is a pretty basic hostal. I would rate it higher if not for the noise and somewhat inconvenient location. Courtyard is quaint for relaxing outside but guests are allowed to fraternize there at all hours. The noise from the courtyard til 3am coupled with the loud party music being played at the cafeteria starting at 830am(??!?) didn't allow for much sleep. The location was convenient for the futbol game but not much else.

We arrived eary in the morning (4.30am). The staff were rude and made us feel guilty for arriving so early, even though we told them that we would. We weren't allowed to use the kitchen to make a coffee. No kitchen facilities, ordinary breakfast. Wouldn't recommend.

Not bad double bed was very small and decor was kinda like steeping back into the 80's but done the job.
