i stayed here one night. It was too much noisy during all the night!

Very friendly staff, clean room an great location on the Gran Via. I would definately stay again!

The managers smoked all the time, and it stunk up the place. But they were very nice.

Hostal Santillan was really a good surprise during my stay in Madrid. Perfectly placed in Grand Via, in the heart of Madrid with metro and bus really close. The rooms are perfectly clean and the fourniture is modern and of good quality. The only negative points I can think of: you must look for the door number since there are no signs to point you the hostel; and the elevator was sometime quite busy, which made me take the stairs to the 8th (!!) flor a few times.

This is not a hostel which is what we were expecting. It is a very nice mid-priced hotel but not a hostel.

For me, this hostel was really good, you can somehow understand the Spain culture when staying there. The building was interesting and beautiful. I definitely recommend you to stay there. Only 2 things were not really good. Firstly, it is a bit noisy at night, because it is located on the main street of Madrid. You should consider it if you are not a person easy getting a sleep. Secondly, the woman working there can not speak English, you have to make a good plan yourself to enjoy the city.
