Very nice family-run place. The staff were very helpful and had good advice. Great hostel and great location. My only complaint is that there is only ONE shared bathroom for the dorm and the common area. Get a private room if you can.

Nice terrace for breakfast, staff are friendly. My room does not have a window, it would be nice to have at least a clerestory window above the door for fresh air.

Good hostel not far from the main plaza. Our matrimonial was clean with our own bathroom, even though we didn't have our own window. Breakfast was good with eggs.

This hostel needs a bit of maintenance- we were first given a room that was so damp on the ceiling that a big patch of mould had formed and was blowing spores off, pretty bad for your health! The room we moved to was fine though troubles with closing the door. Overall the private rooms were clean and nice enough (except for the paint peeling on the ceilings). The common bathroom was badly in need of a clean. Breakfast was nice, location was good and staff were accomodating enough.

A really lovely hostel with excellent location just 5 minutes from main square and supermarkets and with wonderful hosts! We got there in the middle of rainy season when rain was pouring all days long. They even have water problems in all the town but hosts did everything to help us cope with this inconveniences. breakfast is wonderful and they can make it earlier if you're going to visit Colca canyon early in the morning! Very quiet. Would recommend it for good sleep and homely atmosphere!

This is a really nice hostel with a lot of character. Its great if you want somewhere quiet and relaxing. It has a really nice free breakfast, as well as bread, you get fresh juice and the choice of scrambled eggs or cereal with yoghurt. The facilities are great as well, there is a room with exercise equipment and a TV rooms. It is owned by a Peruvian couple, who are very nice, so its nice to support a local business rather than a foreign owned place for a change.

The room was good. It\'s warm and you have tv cable in it. there are towels and all that stuff. It has good location because everything is near. Breakfast was quite good. You have eggs, juice, milk, coffe, coca, etc. It was great! I highly recommend it!

This hostel was a welcome break for me after another hostel that leaked rain in Arequipa. Hostel owner was always around to help, and made us feel very welcome. The breakfast was delicious, and the rooms are all very well kept and clean. The building is currently undergoing small construction work, but that did not affect my stay at all. An excellent hostel!

They do not have the facilities they describe on hostelworld. May be because of the works in progress, but in this case the hostel should be closed or they should alert the guests about the situation.

Staff was very friendly and spoke English, and there was hot water! (you might have to wait a while but it's there!) Very close to the main plaza.

Loved Hostel Sol de Oro . Very central to Plaza Mayor...Only 3 blocks walking . Staff very friendly and helpful . On our last day ,the lady at reception went out in the pouring rain to get a taxi to take us to the bus station . Only downside was that there was no kitchen as they are building a new one . Both computers worked really well especially the Skype (with web-cam) Would definitely stay here if I come back to Arequipa . Gracias Hostal S D Oro

Sol de Oro is under construction and this could have led to the problems we encountered. The facilities are NOT AS ADVERTISED. The kitchen is tiny and cluttered by their construction equipment. There is no "bar" or pool table. The common areas, in general, are not comfortable. The staff was rarely in reception. Every time we needed something we had to go searching through their construction site. Other than that, the rooms were pretty clean and comfortable. Does not deserve its high rating.

Average hostel. Location is great. Plaza de Armas is within walking distance. Sometimes I felt as if I was an inconvienence to the staff when I needed to ask for help. Overall the hostel is fairly clean and everything you would need.

I think the breakfast must have changed- sure, it's good (all the regular bread and tea plus your choice of eggs OR cereal and yogurt), but not worth raving about. What does make this hostel amazing is the helpfulness of the staff- their service is excellent. I wanted to check out the canyon but didn't know exactly how to go about it, and they arranged everything for me. They also got my bus ticket out of Arequipa, and didn't charge service fees for any of it.

We stayed in a private room. Very happy with the location and cleanliness. Staff were excellent and allowed us to check-in early after a long bus ride from Cusco, as well as an early breakfast on check out day. The only negative things to say would be that the private room did not have a window, but was otherwise good; and the puppy playing in the hostel might have fleas - since my wife had several insect bites on the day of our check out. Not really the fault of the hostel. Would stay again.
