Denise and Douglas are lovely, they helped me a lot and let me stay in the room until I left for my bus in the evening on the day I checked out. It's a great location, with a viewpoint on the same road, and really close to the restaurants, bars etc. Whiskey, the dog, is really friendly too! I'll definitely stay here again if I come back.

The couple who own Alto Mar were so friendly and helpful - it really made our stay at Alto Mar! The hostel is in a great location - with views over the sea and two minutes away from the old town. There is also a great little restaurant next door which overlooks the sea. We went in low season which meant there wasn't much of an atmosphere, but that was not down to the hostel. I would definitely recommend Alto Mar.

We had a great time at Alto Mar! Its a beautiful hostel and the owners are very friendly and helpful! Also Arraial da Ajuda is a nice place to go and the hostel is locaties just a bit out of the touristy street which we liked. Thanks!

Excellent hostel. Lovely, friendly staff who were very helpful and gave us good advice on what to do around the area. Great breakfast-the cake was delicious!

Really lovely, friendly hostel in a beautiful location. The staff were very friendly, and played beautiful music every evening

A lovely hostel, great atmosphere, attentive staff who play music and serenade you while you lay in a hammock!

The hosts were very nice. The breakfast was good and the staff is very helpful. We had a good time!

The dorm room was very very small for 6 beds and too hot during the summer, so I ended up choosing to stay in a private room for twice the price they charged for the dorm. The mattress was bad and only one wall outlet in the room, but the owners Denise and Douglas were so nice and helpful at all times that it made end up liking the place.

The location is just perfect, behind the church and on top of the cliff overlooking the ocean (tip: if you want to watch the sunset, just wake up and get out, the viewpoint is one minute from the hostel). The breakfast was good and the staff was super nice. The only thing was the door of the dorm - if you closed it from inside, the ones outside could not open it, if you closed it from the outside you locked in those who were inside. So when the dorms are full it's not too practical.

The staff is very frendly and helpfull. It's a relaxing and social environment, easy to meet new people. Hade a great time. Thanks 😄

muito obrigado senhoras, a minha estadia foi incrível, e tão relaxante! reservado para 2 noites e se hospedaram 6!

Breath of fresh air arriving here and meeting Phelia. This was fantastic meeting her and spending time here, I stayed an extra 2 nights and wish I had stayed more. All questions were welcomed and any help the staff could give they did including arranging a hire car for us. I miss Phelia already and would highly recommend staying here. Lots of laughs and great memories.

Such a great place! Stayed way longer than I planned because of the wonderful hosts and laid back vibe. Lots of space to hang out and great location. I really didn't want to leave. Thank you so much for the excellent stay:)

Staff mega friendly! Helped with tours, local food and drink places and helped create a great atmosphere! No lockers

There was no water available in the guest kitchen.

I really enjoyed my stay there- its in a top location with a beautiful garden and hammocks and a well equipped kitchen to cook. The owners offer great tips for getting to know the area. Loved the trip to the indigenous Jaqueira Reserve. We wouldnt have found the place without Phelia. Thanks a lot!

Nice hostel, very beautiful view

Great location on the cliff top just behind the church. Easy access to the beach and town, with lots of shops & food places. We had a private room. Not sure what the dorms were like. Nice layout with a terrace running along the private rooms, with a hammock, and garden with dining area. Room had mosquito net and ensuite. Breakfast was decent, fruit, bread with cheese & ham, cake etc. Friendly staff. Had a laundry service too. Kitchen seemed ok, but we didn't use it. A decent place.

Staff were friendly but not very helpful, not sure if it was because of the language barrier. Hostel is nice enough but the common area isn't that great so it was hard to meet people

We really enjoyed our stay in the hostel. It is really close to the city center, however calm and relaxed. The Brasilian/German owners and the rest of the staff are really nice and helpful, security is not an issue and hostel's atmosphere strongly profits its big common area and hammocks to chill out in. Breakfast is included; overall we experienced it as really good value for money compared to other hostels around.
