The low atmosphere rating was because the people staying in the hostel seemed to be a group of friends who may have lived/worked there and had the run of the place, so we didn\'t feel very comfortable around the hostel. On the other hand, the girls at the front desk were very helpful, and hot.

Really nice hostel, the owner is very helpful and will give you tips on anything you need to know about Costa Rica. Good facilities and a real communal atmosphere. Would recommend.

Thank you for the genuine welcome to San Jose! It's rare to get the local perspective in a few short days, but I truly feel as though I experienced the city. The staff was incredibly helpful with booking adventures and full of suggestions for evening activities. The pancakes were unforgettable - I'll be back for seconds! The eco-friendly touches were very impressive. From composting & recycling efforts to the solar panel lighting, it's comforting to know you're protecting the environment.

Excellent hostel! We stayed for only one night so can't comment on the location in terms of San Jose attractions, but the atmosphere was friendly & laid back, the room was really clean, & the staff were awesome! We stayed at a number of hostels over our 3m central America trip, & the staff here were honestly the friendliest/most helpful we encountered! The hostel had great common areas & a great book exchange. The only negative was lack of bathrooms- 2 bathrooms for the entire place!

I have stayed in these places all over the world...I have never ever stayed in a place quite like this one. I felt apart of the family as soon as I arrived..and was treated wonderfully.

The staff are very friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. The place is very clean and a great atmosphere. It is a little walk into town but a great location - close to supermarket too. Thanks for the delicious pancakes! Hope to be back one day to visit :)

They were having water pressure problems when we were there which made the showers less than adequate. The ensuite private room we had had a loft which normally would have been great if I hadn't been in town for hip replacement surgery, so that was a bit awkward, and would have been impossible after the surgery. But overall, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. Great owners and staff, owner did a great barbecue hot wings, excellent food, nice layout... an overall good feel about it.

If this is the top hostel in San Jose heaven help the rest. My room was filthy, musty and cold in an outer part of the building, consequently the room was like ice. My bed was a well-worn hard mattress on a rickety wooden platform about 5 feet off the dirty floor reached only by steps and the floor was too grubby to put anything on. I did not get what I paid for ie a twin room. The owner was friendly and I think he knew that he had given me a raw deal. I have the photos as evidence of my room.

Bekuo is the kind of hostel that long term travelers in the area would favor and would opt to stay at every time they transit through San Jose. The staff is very helpful and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. They'll let you use their phone for a quick call, arrange taxi pick-up, exchange money etc. The facilities are clean and there's wi-fi access as well as public computers. The neighborhood itself is very safe and there's a supermarket in close proximity.

Amazing staff, helped us with everything from simple advice to haggling with the taxi driver who tried to charge us double, to searching for car rentals. Unbelievable common areas. Only thing that can get better is the consistency of hot water in the showers.

We had a wonderful time at Hostel Bekou. The staff, especially Irene, were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Our travel plans changed and we were in a bit of a spot by Irene helped us to navigate the travel reservations and get ourselves back on track. Great New Years party as well. Everyone should stay here when in San Jose!

I had a great stay at Hostel Bekuo! It\'s in a safe location and the building is great. Breakfast every morning was better than ive had at any hostel and there\'s lots to do if you don\'t feel like going out (wii tv games etc) Also there\'s plenty of bars in the area to go out to!
