This was my second stay at Casa del Parque. It is a clean hostel in a beautiful old house and is in a good, safe location. It is also a fairly quiet, "tranquilo" place to stay versus somewhere like backpackers. I always meet people more interesting than your average tourist there.

Really enjoyed my stay here - the entire house has a good, calm vibe to it. I like that it was very clean, comfortable, and welcoming and not really a hostel for partiers and party-crashers. Will definitely stay here again next time I am in San Jose.

Best hostel experience ever. The hostel itself is very cool and old fashioned. It is actually the owner, Federico, ancestors old house. Rooms are spacious and it is all very clean and secure. All guests are buzzed in making sure that no strangers are let in. A couple Robin and his girlfriend take care of all issues and are more than happy to help with planning, transport and whatever you might need. The same is Federico, the owner who can often be found in the kitchen or office. Go here!

Having traveled for 24 hours to get there, I was glad that casa del parque's reputation as a quiet hostel was in fact true. It's a government protected house so the owner can't add needed bathrooms, but I never faced a wait time. Iola and Robin are great staff and very informative on activities in & out of the city. VERY glad I stayed here.

The hostel is big, with many doubble rooms and a big dorm room. But only one shower. Its located in a secure part of San José and the stuff can help you with almost everything!

The hostel is in a really fancy building, however it isn't very cozy. I had the feeling that the staff didn't care too much about the customers and weren't too eager to help. Location is super good, and the hostel is located in a safe area close to everything. Great thing that they had lockers there, but bring your own lock, or pay 5 dollars of a lock...

A really lovely place to stay, feels more like a home than a hostel. I loved the fact that the dorm room had beds, not bunks. Plenty of room to chill out and relax.

Really enjoyed our stay at Casa del Parque, so much that we came back twice during our CR trip. Staff friendly and helpful, good kitchen, quiet at nights so perfect before that early morning bus or flight. HOT WATER!!!

I had an amazing time at Casa del Parque. It had a great location, about a 5-10 min walk to all the major attractions in San Jose and the staff (Robin & Lola) were extremely helpful, laid back, and welcoming. They helped me a ton pretrip, because San Jose was my first stop in Costa Rica, and they created a laid back and social atmosphere. I would definitely not call this a ¨party¨ hostel, but its social yet not wild atmosphere was perfect for travelers looking to relax and meet some others

one of the few places that make you feel at home as soon as you walk in. there are two new people workng there that really made the difference between a regular hostel experience and one that you alwys hope to remember. (robin and ???sorry) if I were rich id fly them first class to canada, and get them a brand new sewing machine, one of special ones that fits in a small travel bag.

Excellent staff. Robin and Iola are there when needed. The dorm is very big and very clean. The availability of internet and a room for trip research make it convenient. I definitely will come back.

Their restaurant opened today, 6 dec 2011, with very tasty, mainly vegetarian food. Lucky on our last day to have a bite to eat.

I found this place on TripAdvisor.com and it had great reviews. It's in a safe part of town with lots to do within walking distance. We stayed here our first night arriving to town and were so happy that we came back 2 days later as a pit stop on our way to the other part of the country.
