Seriously this is not a hostel.. it's a giant appartment filled with as many matress as possibles.
So when they say you are getting a "room" in this hostel, it is not true! I booked 2 spots in a 5 mixed dorm. That ended up being one double bed, and a twin bead that was separated by sheets! This "hostel" is basically an open house, with beds on the floor, people on couches, and no privacy. Also you have to be quite after 10pm, and there is no general hang out area. So if you are looking for some rest and/or socializing, not the place. It just a cheap bed in a pretty good location.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Chez Jean for 3 nights and enjoyed it. The guy working there was very nice and answered any questions we had. Breakfast was good and was included in the price, which was only $20 for a private double. Although some beds were placed in the hall and seemed disrupted often, our private room was clean and quiet. The location is great and is right near everything on St.Denis. It was convenient to have 24hr access, hot showers, and breakfast anytime. We would stay again.
When İ arrived to hotel to 9:00 am, I was shocked. All room doors are open because, there is no fresh air in the rooms. Also, some rooms are separated with sheet or linen, I mean that there is no wall between the rooms. When The responsible person understand that we are shocked, he offered that I have a van and you can stay there. If you want to sleep without caring anything, you can stay; but if you care or expect just one thing from the hostel, you should not stay.

Not the best if you want space and privacy, but nice if you want to know people. It feels a bit like living in a commune, especially at breakfast times.
I give it 5 stars. The place is close by everything...bars...resto...mini stores...super markets....sundries. It's just like being at home. The staff...wonderfull. Current regular tenant when I was there..Benjamin...Renauld....Claude...andour social coordinator "Z" made me feel like home. The ambiance make everybody feels WELCOME. Breakfast all day...smart idea because when on vacation..no one wakes up early just to have breakfast. Excellent place. I will be back . Merlin :)
It has a great location. Although it can be noisy if you are in the rooms facing the street. The shower was awful. it was either too cold or too hot and the splash coming out was poor. they need to fix the shower
An old house that fits well the atmosphere of Montreal very nice owner. very nice place.
