Really nice place, with a really friendly bar downstairs which was full of locals on Friday and Saturday night. Was really encouraging to see security checked everybody passing into the hostel part of the building was staying there. Only downsides are having to pay additionally for towels, and the showers needing to be re-started with the button quite often. Otherwise the hostel was great, with very comfortable beds and a good atmosphere.

One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at! Staff was really cool and helpful. Meeting locals at the hostel bar was really nice. I'd definitely come back!

This may just be the greatest hostel in the world! I would recommend it to every traveler that is going to Lille. An amazing and friendly staff, great amenities and a wonderful neighborhood.

The staff is very friendly,and the breakfast was so continental and nice abricot jam,fresh bread.The hostel respect very much the customer.

The hostel looks brand-new, modern and clean. The room looked a bit like an army camp - huge and empty apart from the bunk-beds and sink - but each bed has a curtain and reading light which is a fantastic touch, allowing privacy in a busy room. Free internet access 24/7. Staff very friendly. Bar area is atmospheric and very popular. I'm not sure why there are negative reviews about the showers - the water runs for a full 20 secs, if you don't want it to cut off then just press it again...

Everything was really clean. Staff members were always kind and helpful. There was an event at the bar in the lobey and we didn't hear anything in the room, so it is very well isolated. Good value for the price.

It was a fun, young place with a hopping bar. Really excellent atmosphere. Although, it's not super close to downtown so you have a tiny bit of a hike. Located in a super artsy district though and it's great!

Hostel Gastama is bright, clean, friendly and just up the street from the best Bistro I have eaten in in a while. The rooms are basic and we had bunk beds with a handbasin. Toilets and showers were shared but new, clean and spacious. The bar downstairs is great with lots of beers and a good atmosphere. Breakfast is not worth the expense as there are better and cheaper places nearby. Staff were great, helpful and the electronic card security system stopped anyone but residents getting around

The shower is really bad (you have to keep pressing, or the water doesn´t come). They charged me in 4 bucks for an awful breakfast. When I got there, around midnight, the place was crowded and people were not respectful.

It was cold, humid and almost dark when I reached the Hostel, which lies half a mile away from the main square of Lille. I had been walking through the preterite and grey streets of the town - all of which convey an impression of French earnest and prosperity, so you can imagine my surprise at entering the hostel and finding myself in a modern ambient. The girl of the reception was not only helpful and droll, but also spoke good English. The WC were fine and after 8 pm the bar is crowded!

It is a very clean hostel..I like the bed which has reading light, curtain, and plugs... Good wifi connection...

Great location and super atmosphere in hostel.

The rooms on the main road can be noisy, as people go in and out of the bar until 1 or 2am. We were on the 2nd floor. The ensuite was good, but the taps in the sink and shower had to be constantly pressed to get the water (I assume to save water or prevent flooding). This was annoying especially in the shower as you'd have to be quick to turn around and get water on your back.

The hostel was one of the best. Clean, comfy beds, big windows , excellent facilites- kitchen hang. Out area- busy bar downstairs. Amazing small touches too like curtain on bed, personal light and plugs to charge personal stuff if in a room with strangers! Really impressed! (only thing I accidentally booked 2 singles bunks on a romatic break- they wanted more money and would notchange it-hostel was pretty empty thought that was a bit mean!!! Otherwise no complaints) breakfast 4 euros extra each-

Loved staying at Hostel Gastama and hopefully, I'll be returning in the summer. The recpetion and bar staff were amazing and made me feel very welcome. They helped me with everything including a plug adapter! Had an excellent stay.

Best Hostel I've ever been to.

Very nice, modern and clean hostel, we loved the facilities and especially the kitchen. The staff was very nice, talkative and helpful. The bar at the hostel was great, you only had to go down and you could enjoy it. The only negative thing is that we heard a lot of noise during the night and it hindered our sleep.

It's a very charming and new hostel very well located. However a bit pricy for the 2-bedroom without bathroom as towels are not included which is most the case in all hostels I've been the last year. I will still recommend it for the dorms. Price is then more intersting.
