We had a tiny room for 4 people - we barely had enough space to open our luggage with the futons out, and no room to walk (we had to jump over our luggage to get in the room. A max of 3 people should stay in that type of room - and that's stretching it. Also, the WiFi was terrible and unreliable - they should really fix it. Otherwise the staff was nice and the hostel is clean and pleasant.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, helping us book our activities but also just in general. They were very thoughtful making me a little origami present for my birthday. The hostel itself is very cute but traditional also near to the Gion District. Definitely recommended!!!

the staffs are friendly and very informative about tourism objects in kyoto. the location is good cause near to higashiyama subway station and higashiyama sanjo bus stop so that could be easy to go to Gion, Maruyama Park and many temples around this location.

Convenient location to subway and tourist sights. Helpful, polite and friendly English speaking staff. Good experience for traditional Japanese house stay!

Very good Hostel, the clerks were always nice and always helped you in any request or question with a sincere smile and were always kind. The place was always clean and is in walking distance to SEVERAL main attractions in Kyoto. The most memorable memory of this stay was really the kindness of the staff. I would definitely stay in Haruya again.

This hostel was good all around. Kyoto has so many sights to see that it is pretty difficult to be close to everything! This hostel was easy to find and is very close to the bus and subway. The staff was so polite and friendly! The drawback of this hostel include that the toilets are in a covered/private area outside and that the dorm room was very tiny.

The staff were very friendly and always ready to help! The hostel itself is a beautiful old traditional style house and we really enjoyed staying there :) The location was great, as its walking distance to most of the things we wanted to do/ see (close to Gion, temples, shrines etc) and even the futon beds are comfy! Thanks so much for everything :)

Loved this place! It's a traditional Japanese style house, so be warned that the toilet, sink and laundry are outside (which can be cold in the winter - shower is inside though and very nice), but the experience is well worth it. THere is one all female dorm with bunks, all the other rooms are traditional futons on tattami, but still comfy. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly and location was convenient to subway and sights (though not to JR lines). Loved it. Would definitely stay again!

amazing place, really nice atmosphere at a great location. stuff were incredibly helpful and kind. they even upgraded us to a nicer room that was free for no extra charge. very clean too. only downside was that toilets are outside which is not so great in the winter. had a really nice stay there over all!

The staff was extremely helpful. She gave us a great overview of Kyoto as we checked in, where to eat, where to go. We got to stay in a bigger room than we originally booked for 2 out of the 3 nights as the room was vacant. I love the hospitality of this hostel, would definitely stay here again. Arigatou!

The most amazing service of any hostel -- when we showed up they gave us an itinerary they made for us taking into account the dates we were staying there and the weather. They were great at looking up any information we wanted to know about things to do, how to get places, and making reservations for restaurants. The room is definitely small, but we only used the room for sleeping so it didn't matter. Would definitely stay here again!

The hostel owner is very kind and helpful. At the end we wanted to extend one more day but it was full. So, better do booking one month before your trip. This is hot. One thing is the atmosphere is very very quiet but it is the style of Kyoto anyway. Thanks for offering us an excellent accommodation and assistance during the visit. We will be back! ;D
