This hostel had everything - hot showers, clean rooms, really helpful staff, close to the centre of town and the bus station (2-3 blocks walkable), good wifi, very useable kitchen and great chill out areas. Try to stay on a Sunday if you can so you can take part in the all you can eat BBQ the owner's put on! And the amazing empanadas on Saturday night. There's not many places I'm hesitant to leave - this was definitely one of them. Kudos to the owners who clearly care about their hostel.

Nice place. We were offered a triple room, which we took, but was not great value for money. Room was cold and by the street. Place was safe and people seemed nice.

Hola! Although it was freezing on the days you stayed you could have warmed up the room by turning on the heater that we showed you how to use. When you left our cleaning lady made a joke about Europeans not feeling the cold as the heater was off in your room! The room is street-side but is quadruple glazed so most of the street noise is isolated and 99.9% guests do not report any issue. Safe Travels Lao

Very overrated hostel. Plus, the cheap free wine they serve to from monday to saturday gives you a terrible headache. You should not ever consider drinking it. Besides, in the two nights I've stayed there, there has been no 'asado'.

We realised on your first day in the hostel that there is only one way to answer your complaints (from the weather, to the wineries being out of the city, to the bus costing a massive $1.80, from the queues at the banks and the old bank notes, to Argentina using their own currency and not US$ or Brazilian Reales, even and people being too friendly when"we just want service", I could go on...) and that is to say "Yes you are so right". From now on we will serve nothing but Pulenta Estate Gran Malbec and there will be Asados for lunch and dinner. (Coincidently we had a celebratory Asado the day you left.) Safe Journey Home.

Had a great stay at Hostel Lao. They have really helpful and lovely staff, we felt at home immediately. The beds were super comfy and we had the best sleeps ever during our stay. They also reccommend fantastic tours which we took advantage of. Thanks a lot, we loved Mendoza!

Hostel was fantastic. Close to the bus station, 5 blocks from the San Martin. Friendly, helpful staff. Overall a great relaxing place with a court yard and free glass of wine to enjoy at night.

Loved it all. Met great people, got great recommendations for visiting vineyards and horse-riding, loved the dogs, loved the atmosphere, loved the vegetarian food (cheers to Mike's mother in law), loved the free wine, loved the small touches. The list is too long. Was a recommendation from a friend and would without doubt recommend it to others. Mike & Celeste are very professional, put a lot of work into Hostel Lao & make it look effortless. They also have a cracking sense of humour.

Nice relaxed atmosphere, very firendly and helpful staff, only slight drawback is that its 25 pesos more than similar hostels nearby

Hola. The other hostel you mention(where we sent you because we were full) is double our size, and you stayed in a 10 bed dorm there and a 4 bed dorm here. These are just 2 of a huge list of reasons why we are more expensive than them. We are actually cheaper than several places in MDZ. Next time we will send you somewhere more expensive! Safe Travels

Very friendly and helpful staff who'll help organise wine tours etc. Lovely garden area with hammocks, pool and BBQ. Very sociable hostel, probably aided by the free wine in the evenings! Had a great stay here.

Hi Mike and Celeste! We had a great stay - thanks! We felt at home, we felt we could relax, while socializing and sharing our experiences with other people. We appreciated your help with finding places to eat, and with booking the Andes and wine excursions. Finally, we really liked the home-cooked dinner with everyone.

Breakfast left a little to be desired but that is the only thing that I think can be improved on.

Hola! I really can not believe this comment. I have just returned from holiday and stayed in several Argentine hostels. The norm for breaky was 2 sweet cakes and nescafe, served 8-10. Here you get cereals, yoghurt, fresh fruits, fresh real juice, real coffee, variety of teas, homemade jams, 2/3 types of Argentine pastries, bread and toaster, and occasionally pancakes or fruit salad; all served 7-12. There is no way we can improve on this unless you want to start paying double and to be honest I have seen that our breaky is above and beyond so it´s not an area we are even thinking about improving. Safe Travels.

I stayed here a few years back when travelling with my partner and we had a fantastic time, which is why I decided to stop one night on my way from Santiago to Buenos Aires. The place is still as good. When travelling alone I find staying in smaller homely places makes it easier to hook up with people to hang out with. Lao is perfect for this! The free wine in the evening helps break the ice and the layout of the place means you make friends really quickly. breakfast til 12pm is great!!!

One of the best friendly smart hostels anywhere. Francisco and entire staff were splendid. And thanks, to Francisco, for suggesting we go to the barbecue in hostel first night--super chance to meet fascinating guests, including five med students from Norway, two geologists working in Mexico, a chemistry teacher from Canada, and more. Also, having swimming pool in the garden is delightful.
