Disappointment. Checkout was at 10 but reception didn't show up till close to 11 either of the days we stayed and didn't tell us about the permit we'd need to drive in the city even after we asked. They call it cozy because the common area is crowded with 3 people. It's more like half a breakfast nook. To be fair the rooms were clean and safe but Merlin has no character. I wish we had stayed somewhere else, like an attic loft. It would have been friendlier and more spacious.Disappointment. a very small hostel with one computer only. If u travel with friends do not get the 6-bed dorm coz it's the same price as a double room, all the other thing is good. Stayed 2 nights in a twin in Sept and enjoyed being at the center of town.A rafting store was opposite, you can return from rafting and go to the hostel to shower.Very friendly staff. I discovered 4 weeks after staying here that I'd lost my USB+keys. The staff kept my property for me, they sent it back to the UK for free. The rooms are a little snug, but there are shelves. We loved this place! We stayed in one of their off-site little rooms in the pension part. It was a double room with a private bathroom and a little courtyard. It was adorable-- like a little B&B. The staff wasn't so nice though. It was very reasonably priced too. But we ran into a guy who had stayed in the hostel part down the street and it seemed he had a very different experience. My guess is that the location is waht makes this place. 1shower'worked',push button for 4sec of really hot water followed by 9secs of warm.It wasnt till after dinner we got back at 9pm and i felt the softness of my bed(cold slate). Anyone know a good chiro? The walls between the bathrooms and the door are waffer thin, so i can report that 50% of the hostel had good bowel movements! Skip this and book Krumlov House or Hostel 99. I am in Krumlov House now writing this so seem my review there! nice location (though make sure you *really* know hoe to get there, including some words in the local language).
