A very efficient hostel set up. Excellent lounge area and the airport shuttle is a big plus.

Amazing atmosphere and really nice bathrooms. The front desk staff was really kind and the food was great. It seemed really secure as there was a huge locked door to get into the hostel. I loved it here

The best part of Pangea is the bar/restaurant and all the places to chill out. The staff was very helpful and the food was great especially breakfast. The room was small but it was good for what we needed.

Fun hostel, safe, and clean! These 3 things can really be scarce in San Jose. Highly recommend. Great common areas aka bar area and pool to hand out and meet other backpackers. Would stay again. That being said, and this has nothing to do with the hostel itself, but there is not much to do in San Jose, you most likely will want to leave the next day. Just and FYI bc quite a few ppl booked too many days and wanted to leave.

It's really a nice hostel! The only thing it's really lound at night because of the bar, if you like to party it's the place to stay. We were just there for one night, so no big deal. Good thing, it's really close for everything, museum, bank, market for souvenirs (and I'm not talking about the central market, it's in the opposite way, ask at the front desk)

I was very impressed with the Hostel Pangea. The facilities are excellent. There is a lot of space for people to mingle and get to know each other. I was also impressed with the cleanliness of the hostel. The music from the bar / restaurant is loud, however, it goes off at 11 sharp.

Generally good however - being make to wear a mandatory wristband daily was quite a bit annoying. That bit felt like being more in a prison than a hostel! They were also a bit pedantic on some "rules" e.g. I could not leave my bag for more than 2 hours without paying $5 (I only wanted to leave it 3 hours) and they were pushy on trying to sell airport transfers. I got the local bus to the airport which was totally fine (and only cost $1). Very nice bar / pool area though!

Tried to change rooms the first night to a dorm because my boyfriends flight was canclled wasn't allowed because id booked, I didn't have enough money for the room it was late didn't want to walk to the atm got charged 10% more. The shuttle cost me $25 with an extra hidden charge for my board in an empty van, I went to pick up my boyfriend from the airport the next day and the shuttle drove straight past us, expensive for a room with no windows and everything was made complicated.

stayed only 1 night so it is hard to say good or bad. I felt clean and safe. only one thing bothered that when you go out, someone always got to open/close door. somehow I felt uncomfortable to access.

We got to Hostel Pangea really beat from our travels and requested a private room - they urged us to use their other hostel near the mall that is quieter and it worked out quite well. The other hostel - Toruma - was the ex-president's old house - It was an old, pretty building and VERY hidden behind a huge wall. At night it's almost impossible to identify if you don't know that it's directly across from KFC. A small pool, ok internet, lots of computers, and hot showers.

There was a slight smell of sewer water or a possible dead mouse somewhere near our first room (#4), but for my second and stay in a different room it was much better (room #21). The shuttle service and staff are excellent! Pura vida.

I was terribly unimpressed with this hostel. Never have I had a hostel leave such a terrible taste in my mouth. The bathrooms were disgusting... toilet paper overflowing out of the trash cans, all of the rooms are small and uninviting with nothing on the walls. The beds were way under par in terms of comfortability. The staff was a whole other manner. Not welcoming, not fast, and very unfriendly. The worst was the staff member working the bar who refused to give me silverware for my meal.

The guy working the bar/restaurant was a bit creepy as in checking out all the ladies. Restaurant was very slow, I guess that could just be Tico time.

The staff was very disrespectful especially after costa rica lost to USA. Upstairs staff was very lazy and gave an attitude if you needed something like the wifi or a cold beverage. It felt like to them we were a burden. Tour advice was great and reception from manager was rude after the first day. The facilities were good and it was comfortable, but if you are the type of person that cant stand rude people in general you may have an issue.

Would have been helpful to know that Pangea doesn't take credit cards. Would have been even more helpful to know that the ATM closed at 10 pm. We asked the bartender about an ATM and he said where it was, but not that it closed in less than 30 minutes. We had to go to bed and wait until morning before we could get more money. Also, no one was responsive to my emails regarding my change in flight plans and I was charged twice.
