The food was not good and some of the staff working at the bar were complaining to us about having to do their job. The hostel itself is gorgeous with all the artwork and the bathrooms are extremely nice.

I like a top sheet on the bed--------not just a blanket.

I love Hostel Pangea. The staff members are always cordial and helpful, the rates are reasonable, and it offers easy access to the city center. Highly recommended.

I've stayed at this hostel last year for a night and again this year. It's a great place for a quick overnight stay after a flight or needing to be in the city early in the morning. Not sure why, but the few times I've stayed there, there are always younger teens staying and they always make a lot of noise. Otherwise, it's great for backpackers needing a night to rest up before a flight or a bus ride to another Costa Rican location.

The music was much too loud. One sink for about 25 women didn't make any sense.

Pangea was amazing. Rooftop bar with a view of the whole city. Easy to recommend.

First, it's look like a jail, but upstairs is a friendly terrace, a nice place very near the city center.

The hostel is nice but the room was horrible: no window and very noisy.

The staff at Hostel Pangea were incredibly helpful. It's in a nice location in downtown San Jose for venturing out for brief jaunts without becoming overwhelmed by the crowded streets. Nice breakfast spot just up the street, zoo is nearby. The downside is the guests. The first night we stayed, a group of guys got wasted in the common area, blaring music until 2 and yelling until 4. It was difficult to sleep. The second night (a week later), it was pretty quiet and calm and we slept just fine.

I stayed at Hostel Pangea for two nights-in two separate rooms. The first room was connected to a really great shower/bathroom with hot water, the second room was connected to a mediocre shower/bathroom with cold water. When I was in San Jose it was cold-and all they give you is a sheet, so be prepared with some warm clothing to sleep. Overall it was a good experience.Security was really great, the staff is friendly and the rooms are clean.

Everything was great, with the exception that one of the bartenders was really rude, and the drink tickets were only good for shots, which was disappointing and misleading.

Pangea is OK at best. We were dissappointed that two different staff sent us to the wrong bus station to get to Cahuita. If you don't know or are unsure don't try and give the advice. 2 nights would be the max stay here.

Was said to be a big party hostel, not true! Was asked to leave the bar half an hour before closing time, not much party! And loads of older people staying there!

I Think the place is quite old and run down. Shower and toilet facilities are really not up to standard when you have to change/undress in a public hallway. Beds and pillows where not designed for good sleeping. The general design of the place makes it very noisy in all rooms. Common area was ok but not the best design for bringing people together. To much like a restaurant.

I was so disappointed. Expected a cool hostel, with sprawling atmosphere but all i got was a stiff strict hostel overruled by deposits and rules. The facilities are nice, it's clean and the security is good, but that's it on the positive site. It has no charm. The receptionist was like a machine. And when I had some problems with creditcards being send from Denmark to Pangea, he was totally useless. Failed to give me important information. It's the kind of place you just wanna get out of ASAP!

Pretty cool hostel, with great security, which is good for the area that it's located in. The only complaint I had was that when we were checked in we weren't told where anything was. It took a while to find our room, and even longer to find the pool.

Admissions was horrible. The guys ... 2 of them...were rude and though they explained the process were unnecessarily rough, impatient and ....rude. at one point I thought they were laughing at me... but when i met other hostel stayers there they said they felt the same thing, so maybe I guess they are rude to more than just me. I paid $70 for an extra night, 1 room, and then changed my mind, and they were very disagreeable. Now my vacation is ruined cause I have to end it staying there...
