Really great place. Absolutely recommend it. Good atmosphere. Very secure. The staff is soo friendly. The price is about average, but you get what they promise. The bar in the roof has a great view of the city and is really nice... almost no need to go elsewhere. Food there is also great. Would definitely recommend it and come back if I ever went back to Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

The public toilets (unisex) should have more than one basin... Separate toilet facillities for males & females would make this place nearly perfect.. the water in the pool could be cleaner... Service of the restaurant could be faster.. Nice place though, and the staff is awesome. Best thing in San Jose.

We reserved a shuttle which we waited for more than an hour to come. Then we were told that we had to pay a surcharge for being after 11 pm. Our flight had been delayed, and we received poor service. I did not feel in the mood to pay extra!! The rooms were very noisy, we had to leave again at 5 am and I left without sleep. Not a nice experience.

In total I stayed at the hostel for 5 nights. I experienced that some of your staff seemed really unfriendly. Especially in the bar. It made my consider whether I even wanted to support the bar or not. But I stayed there 5 nights as I thought it was a really nice place. Only had issues with some staff, the high prices in the bar and room 40 doesn't lock.

The hostel is well located and clean. Its too bad that there are no kitchen. The bar and the restaurant are a little pricy.

Hostel Pangea was quite the find. All you need, and in a very central location. Rooms were large and clean, beds were comfortable and staff were very helpful. There is free wifi, a bar-restaurant and pool, as well as lounge room and pool table. I was very happy with my stay and happy to recommend them.

WARNING: HostelWorld says 1 day cancel policy, but then Pangea emails you: 2 day cancel policy, pay one day if canceling day before arrival, and *pay full reservation* otherwise! I canceled my 2nd reservation by email ~ 50 hours before my scheduled noon arrival. When I got home I saw the *full 3 day bill for 2 people* on my card! Tried to resolve by email but they ignored initial emails, then were rude, and then ignored me more :P Suggestion: Alajuela is much nicer and bus to San Jose is $1.

It's nice. its just not that nice. the hostel seems to be a party hostel, that is not the case. its kind of the way cab drivers like to screw you, driving around an extra couple blocks to mark up the fare, thats the way i felt staying here. it was all about cash, not about service. bs rules of where you can eat, what you can eat. the bar closes way too early. its got nice facilities, but its a dangerous location and no one really was that helpful.

Hostel Pangea was a great option for San Jose. It was my girlfriend's first hostel experience so the manager kindly upgraded us to the suite to make it easier on her... The location is very secure and just a short walk from the gold museum and the national theater

There's something wrong with the hostel's priorities when there are 6 flat screen TVs in the lounge, and one fluorescent bulb for every three bathrooms. On the ground floor, the bathrooms are all the way at one end, meaning people have to trek for quite a bit. Tere's just one washbasin/sink for the entiire ground floor, which is absolutely inexcusable There are no hooks to hang anything inside the bathrooms. They need to give basic amenities as much attention as they seem to have their lounge.

Great place to start off a trip. Landed in San Jose and met so many people here, wound up traveling around Costa Rica with most of them.

What stands out about this hostel is the security. Pangea is a COMPOUND. You can't get in without a security bracelet, and you have to ring the bell and be let through the solid iron gate. Its very impressive Restaurant is good, there are lots of computers, wifi , pool.... Nothing bad to say. Staff is great.

Only suggestion would be to relax the policy on guests using facilities, at least wifi, after they stay like while waiting for later bus, airport ride, etc... It didn't affect me, but I would have been unhappy if it did, especially if I stayed there for more than a couple days.

The staff at the front desk weren't very friendly, and they seemed unnecessarily strict with all rules of the hostel like check in time is 2pm and no sooner. Also you werent allowed to eat your own food bought out of the hostel on the tables upstairs, and there was no area you were allowed to so I ate my own food in my room. Also everyone in my room had trouble with their door cards not working, I had to get mine fixed 3 times.

Well its downtown San Jose, what can you really expect? I've seen better and worse. You see the party vibe they are trying to go for but it was dead when I was there, so it was boring, not really the hostels fault though. Weird paintings throughout the place. Check it out if you need a cheap place to stay, but be warned the restaurant/bar will be $ out of you too.
