There was usually no hot water in the showers. The WiFi was down for 2 days and constantly cut off. The staff are sweet and try yet don't speak English so often communicating was impossible. We were put in a ten bed room yet booked an 8 and never got moved after asking three times. There were often power cuts frustrating when you're in the shower. The kitchen is tiny so cooking was impossible. The "washing facilities" is a sink in the garden.
Need better directions for all possible options: interstate bus, airport, taxi/car etc Also need more accurate tagging in Google Maps.
I would like to give Hostel Patua a higher rating than I did. With an excellent location and an amazing staff headed by Marcello, who just might be the most charming person I've ever met, it has all the foundations for a great hostel. It is new, however, and admittedly needs some work, namely in terms of its cleanliness, facilities and security. I have no doubt that by the next time I visit Brazil, Hostel Patua will be an excellent hostel, but for now it's really just average.
Need to work on their washroom / bathroom facilities. The rest of the hostel was cool but the shower and toilet area is the weak link. Small, old and in need of modernisation.
I didn't mind this hostel. Staff were friendly and location was good. Breakfast was decent. If I pick a negative it be bathrooms didn't seemed to be cleaned regularly and those damn drummers outside but maybe it was just the time of year.
Nice hostel, nice staff, most importantly very nice breakfast! :) Difficult to comment on value as I stayed during the World Cup so prices are naturally inflated. Location is good, there are other hostels which are in the middle of the Pelourinho but this hostel is tucked only a few minutes walk away in a quieter area - I consider this to be very positive.
Brand new hostel, means everything looks fresh and nice. Great location Nice staff Since its new, they still got some room for improvement, but i think this place will just become better with time.

Nice clean hostel in Pelo. Great breakfast, friendly staff and comfortable room.
Good location however the staff had no idea about where anything was! There was a weird smell when i was there in the communal area dont know what it was but thankfully not in the bedroom! Beds big and new! Standard south american breakfast with cake and bread nothing too exciting
We spent a week at Hostel Patua and we definitely can recommend it!The location is really central, food at breakfast is delicious and fresh and both owners and volunteers are really cheerful!Super clean for hostels average and airport/bus station transfer offer! The atmosphere was really cool due to the young staff and lots of travelers..nice experience!

Good hostel for the price paid. The rooms were small, which could be a problem if they're fully occupied, but other than that it was good. The staff didn't have much information/ resources (especially about buses), perhaps because it's a new hostel, so you're better off finding out information from the tourist info points. Breakfast was really good, with freshly baked cakes, fresh fruit and juices along with the usual bread, ham and cheese.
