Very nice place...if u are looking for a place to rest, uruguay and this hostel are a good choice. This place is close of aeroport, mall, super market, bus station and so on. Mercedes as uruguauyan people are very friendly, I' ll go back as soon as possible.

The breakfast was delicious! Owner very nice: let us use phone to order bicycles and confirm estancia stay, and lent us one hostel-owned bike (free of charge).

Dirty place and all things had bad smell. The rooms are dark and the kitchen is terrible, very dirty and disorganized. Staff are friendly but the place is very weird as hounted house

Thank you for your generous assistance with travel plans and your excellent breakfasts, as well as facilitating the parilla. While we were at first put off by the disorder in the yard and kitchen areas, we saw them improve after your housekeeper and handyman returned. You should know that there is another well-rated B&B only a few blocks from yours that only charges $60 per night but we enjoyed you and your guests so much that we decided to stay.

It was a really nice place. We had a wonderful room. My only issue is the location is a bit far from downtown. Carrasco is nice but it really is a suburb and not much to do there unless you get a fairly expensive cab ride. The people at this were great however, and if you want to be away from the busyness of the core, this is a great place.

We had a fabulous stay at Hostel Portones de Carrasco. The house is a gorgeous rambling old house in a lovely neighbourhood, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The Hostess is very helpful. Highly recommend staying here.

The hostel is far away from the touristic things in Montevideo which perhaps is not necesarily a bad thing as the hostel itself and the neighbourhood is nice. The hostel is located in a beautiful upscale neighbourhood. We spend one night here and then we booked another hostel because we also wanted to see the touristic things which were closer to the other hostel. The breakfast is definitely above average, really delicious!

If you are looking for a calm atmosphere, Portones de Carrasco is definitely the hostel you should choose. The ambient is quite familiar, there are no parties and the public is somewhat different of what we usually find in hostels worldwide. It is not close to central Montevideo, but you can easily reach downtown by bus (about 40 min). In the other hand, it is close to the airport, so that it is a good choice if you arrive to the city in the night, given the high prices of the airport taxis.

Staying here is like staying in an lovely huge old english country cottage, but with a lovely uruguyan family. This place is slightly out of the way, but well worth the visit if you fancy a quiet place to relax and enjoy Montevideo from. It has beaches all around which are within 10 minutes walking distance. Mercedes, the lady who runs the place will make you feel like a guest in her home.

Excellent place to relax ,more like a guesthouse with the owners touch (Mercedes) She runs a great place and you get to meet the family too,Portones shopping right nearby. Beach down the road, buses run like clockwork(must stick your arm out to hail one) Would definitely include this stop on itinerary.
