Like most hostels on the island, this one is pretty poor.
Great great staff! Paula and Álvaro are really nice. We spend a lot of time with them. Apart of that, not many good things to say. Not a real kitchen, not very clean hostel, but again, great hosts, and only because of them, and some friends of theirs that where there at the time, we had a good time.
A nice enough place that is a little rough around the edges. But what do you expect when you're on a tiny island?! Staff didn't speak great English (and why should they?) but were only too happy to help us. We had a nice stay. Not sure if it had wifi or not, though we didn't ask. Breakfast was eaten in a cloud of bees, which, while probably unavoidable, was a bit annoying. The male half of the ownership had a crazy glint in his eyes that I appreciated.
This is a very good place to stay on the island. Friendly atmosphere and good value for the money. Would definitely come back.
We had a good stay here however due to the nature of Ilha Do Mel, i.e. its isolation, it's difficult to rate the hostels in terms of value for money, facilities etc. The couple running the hostel spoke no english but were very nice to us all the same! No kitchen to cook in however there are many places to eat in the area. You can do laundry here for a fee of 20 BRL.
Alvaro & his wife made you feel welcome & Alvaro loves to cook & we all had a much cheaper local fish dinner much cheaper than the reataurants.WiFi could have been better but may have been due to cloudy conditions at the time.
It is a very clean and quite pousada, the house is cozy and very authentic. The two owners are very nice and helpful. And they treat guests like friends. The pousada is a refugium in the atlantic forest where one can relax in a hammock and watch the birds and grill some fresh fish.
