It's very well localized, just a few meters away from the Metro and Flamengo Park & beach. Though the staff is not the friendliest you can get, it's pretty OK and does it job, especially the cleaning ladies. There are a few minor things that could be improved regarding the facilities: 1) only 1 of 5 showers had working hot water. 2) WiFi is only available from the lobby 3) some of the mirrors were oxidized. It seemed to be very family friendly and far from the party-all-night madness

Spent the weekend in Rio at Republica Hostel. It seems to be a place packed with backpackers, with its typical mood. First impression was not at all great. Coudn't even have a bath since they had just run out of water, and it took way longer than the 30minutes stated to solve the deal. The location was great. Next to a few restaurants, bus stops to rodoviaria and metro station. Staffs were excellent and friendly. The only concern was the toilet. Faulty hot water heater and toilet bowl. Overall the stay was ok.

a big hostel, ok for staying short while but lacks atmosphere

Great location near the subway and not far from the city center or the beaches. Didn't have great bathrooms but beds were fine and the staff were nice and provided a decent breakfast in the morning.

It had a weird smell, the wi-fi never work well, the doors of the bathroom were damage.

The location is great for most of the points of the city. The girls on reception are goddess and helpful.

Good facilities and hot showers! ideally located next to a metro station so easy to get around. Staff were very helpful and breakfast was good.
