I really struggle to see why this hostel gets such rave reviews. Very basic, located in a grungy area by the train station, and the staff was polite but in a stay-behind-the-counter kind of way. The lockers lack power outlets. Room doors can easily be left unlocked when leaving, and others in my dorm told stories of thefts.
This hostel is amazing. I had a great time from the minute I arrived until I left. Very very social - I met people in the bar area the first night and hung with them the entire time, adding a few people each night. Rooms and common areas extremely clean and comfortable - I had a private room and it was definitely worth the money. Nice garden areas, bar open till midnight, but you can get your own alcohol for afterwards. Location was good - very central and 20 min walk to anything big.
Just what I needed at this point in my trip. It was a lovely social hostel. The staff here really have thought of everything.
The hostel was clean and well run. Only issue was the walls are thin so you can hear the outside hall.
Great environment, great facilities, plenty of social opportunities e.g. happy hour @ their bar. Only complaint is that I had to walk far to see what I wanted to see (though I don't mind walking). Would recommend!
great hostel. good atmosphere, and staff is very helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
Really nice hostel with a good vibe. Some serious theft from the fridge though which was disappointing but not the hostels fault!
My friend and I are definitely cynics and a little judgmental. Maybe we should have read the reviews more carefully, but when we arrived we were greeted with a host of acoustic guitars and must have heard wonderwall jammed out 3 times. Maybe your aren't as cynical as me and you love this, but if you're like me and you hate pretentious white dudes in scarves strumming away I wouldn't recommend staying here. Otherwise, the place was immaculate with great facilities and some very sweet people
Great experience! Staff very friendly and helpful with everything you need, great atmosphere in the bar area for solo travellers. My room was on the other side of the street which was a bit annoying but very quiet over there. Location isn't the greatest, you have to take the train or tram into the city but it's right next to any public transport you need. All facilities great. Washing machine was cheap and the most effective dryer!
Excellent place to stay

This became one of my favorite hostels on my 6-week journey around Europe. Clean, warm, professional staff and a laid-back social atmosphere. Vienna is BIG, but Ruthensteiner finds a happy medium between the city center and the palace. I would absolutely stay here again.
The atmosphere at Hostel Ruthensteiner was great and everyone, including the staff, was incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable and nothing was too much trouble!
It is a good hostel for stay, but it's quit inconvenient to carry our luggages to walk stairs. Room is very beautiful and has very clear explanation for their facilities, staff's here are all very friendly and they give me good advise for restaurant and tour.
The hostel was very nice the only thing I would comment on is that it would be better if they had activities in the day so you could meet people.
Such a nice place with a great vibe and super friendly staff. Perfect place to stay and great location. Only trouble I had was with a guy snoring like a freight train! But being awesome they have free ear plugs at reception. Highly recommend
Efficient and very welcoming staff. It was a pleasure to return each night after a busy day of sight seeing.

My favourite hostel I've ever stayed at! The staff are absolutely amazing, they are extremely nice and very helpful! The place was very clean and the beds were super comfortable.
Nice hostel and felt like home Great reception and friendly staff
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. A nice clean hostel with great facilities. A nice garden area to relax in. Train line adjacent. Also very close to many bars and the pub crawl. The common room had a more chill vibe. With a piano and guitars for free use. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I would definitely stay again.
