The hostel lives up to its expectations (From online reviews) and exceeds them, courtesy of the friendly and helpful staff on reception who host the hostel as if you are their new friends staying in the city. I loved the chalkboard with lots of tips and events about vienna, delicious and great value breakfast- your morning coffee will be made with a smile. Beautiful garden area is very social to meet people. Big well-equipped kitchen. Clean & spacious rooms, mine overlooked a pretty courtyard.

Loved it. Period! I will most definitely go back if ever I am in my favourite city of Vienna! The bar and the garden are just the ideal touch. I met plenty of people which is utopia for the lone traveller. Highly recommended!

Great hostel, awesome staff, good location. Don't rent a bike from the hostel- the city bikes that you are connected to the machines only cost 1 euro per hour!!!!

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hi there, thanks for this great review! About the city bikes - they are in fact FREE - but only for the first hour. If you don't return them within 60 minutes, the charges start, with the price increasing with each passing hour. Plus, our bikes are great quality, come with locks helmets etc., and don't require you to hunt around for a citybike station in order to park them...So really both are good options, it just depends on what your plans are :).

I was impressed by the fact that we've been offered a double room with no additional charge, even if we had a reservation of two beds in a mixed dormitory. The breakfast of cereals, yogurt, fruit salad and coffee (with possibility for recharge), for just 2.9 eur, was delicious. :)

Ah yes, you got 'upgraded' - that certainly is known to happen around here :). THANK YOU for the positive feedback, and do come see us agains somtime!

A-MA-ZING! Great staff, well located, cool building with all the necessary facilities, great rooms (it is annoying that the male dorm is cheaper than the mixt dorm though) Certainly one of the best hostel ever !

our stay in Vienna was very worthwhile, the staff of the hostel were very helpful and friendly, the accommodation is well located and, in particular, the courtyard is beautiful and attractively decorated. We recommend the hostel definitely recommend the hostel to friends and acquaintances

The hostel had a nice chilled-out atmosphere and lots of cool quirks that other hostels miss out, such as the use of free instruments, games and books to use, and free lockable lockers. The staff were very pleasant and informative, and the hostel was pretty well-located. The only downside was the beds themselves, which were fairly small and cramped, especially for taller guests.

Hi there, we're glad to hear that you enjoyed our chilled-out atmosphere :). About the bunk beds - we definitely hear you! We're slowly replacing our older bunks (which are a bit lacking in the head-room department) with a new design - next time you come visit, be sure to tell us that you're on the tall side and we'll do our best to make sure you have a bed that suites you! Thanks for your review, and happy travelling!

The staff do their job to the utmost: managers, receptionists, cleaners, designers. You may find a cheaper place in Vienna, though at Ruthensteiner your really feel what you pay for: the rooms are spacious & spotlessly clean with free lockers & bedside lights. Real wooden furniture, floors, doors. Well-equipped guest kitchen. And the INNER YARD as a cherry on the cake. This hostel has been my choice for Vienna for more than ten years.

stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm which actually had some space to lay stuff out and a table with a few chairs and our own ensuite.. the hostel has lots to offer and great informative staff and boards!! would definitely book again! super convenient to west bahn hof train station and only about 20-30 min walk to palace and museum quarters. unfortunately no free walking tours are done at all in vienna so missed some info and history but a great stay to come home to at the end of the day

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hi! Thank you for your nice and informative review - yes, free walking tours is a miss here with all the tour guides having to go through intense & costly training. At the reception we do have lot's of tips though and most of the travel books about Vienna in about 12 languages :) So you can always lean back in a comfy chair in the garden and have a little read and mark stuff on our free Maps - your own free tour :) See you soon again! PS: We do sell the wonderful "evening walk" for around 10.-

Desk staff was great! I didn't catch any names but everyone was very helpful! Kitchen was great, wifi was very well connected, rooms were nice and spacious :) bar was okay, not the best for socializing but all and all for a solo female traveller it was good!

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to review us. For the most time our bar is a wonderful place to socialize - but of course when the nights are warm people wonder off to experience our lively city and then it can get a bit empty at the bar, but usually at 10pm it really fills up again! You can also hang at the reception and chat up the staff - we always appreciate some new stories :) All Love & good travels!
