Perfectly nice place to stay and Ivan is incredibly helpful; unfortunately, located on a very busy corner so definitely bring ear plugs. Rooftop terrace has a nice view, comfier furniture would be a definite plus :).

We initially booked into Santnder Aleman for 2 nights but decided to stay an additional 2 nights because the hostel was great and San Gil is a cool place. We stayed at house 2, our room was exactly the same as a motel room, linen supplied, towles, hot shower. The host, Ivan, inparticular was excellent. He helped us out booking all the stuff we wanted to do including organising our bus tickets out of San Gil. The breakfasts each morning were also great, fresh fruit, coffee, eggs and toast.

The Hotel Santander Aleman Terra Vista is a nice, modern hostel in San Gil. Ivan, the man at the desk speaks more English than most Colombian hostel managers, and was very helpful in providing information on the area, bookings, and general questions about future travel. There was no hot water despite having a tap for it, which is my only complaint about this hostel. The top floor eating and lounging area is a great place for breakfast (included and top notch) or just getting a birds eye view.
