I had a really good time in Hostel Stara Polana. Zakopane is a town with so many fancy traditional houses that nothing is better than staying in one of them. This atmosphere is provided by the Hostel and if the booked room is the private room for 2, you can enjoy a cool room with a kitchen inside. I didn't like that my bed sheet had a hole, though.

The location was a bit far from town, but for the price we really enjoyed our private room. The free breakfast and free WIfi were really great. However, the staff need to work on customer service. While waiting to check out, we rang the bell at reception three times and no one showed up. My boyfriend eventually went to find someone, and she was texting on her phone away from the desk. Very unprofessional.

A walkable distance away from the bus station and town centrum. A nice atmosphere in the hostel, and the breakfast was better than expected.

It felt like you we're intruding on a flat of girls. This may have just been because it was in the off season and was pretty empty. They also seemed reluctant to provide info and advice. They wrongly told us all the ski fields were closed which was a bit strange. However, the facilities are very good... You can do a free load of washing, and the kitchen is well equipped. The location is as central as is made out, but still is not bad. The house is rather lovely.

Be warned: he double room is in fact a twin room. They were kind enough to upgrade us to what them call "appartment" (a good double room). Nothing bad happened but they have some security issues - you have to give them the keys when go out but when we came back we found them on top of the reception desk, unsupervised, ready for anyone to take and, worst of all, anyone from outside the hostel could have reached them. The rest was ok.

The hostel is a wooden house, very cozy. It takes about 15 min to walk to the city center as well as the train/bus station. Staff is friendly and the place seemed clean. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were just fine. I would definitively stay in this hostel again.
