Character: Nice courtyard to have breakfast in. Security: Secure doors to rooms and always-locked entry gate. Staff man the reception desk from 7 am to 10 pm. Location: A bit far east of downtown San Jose. Inevitably, one must take a bus or taxi to the main bus stations to get out of San Jose. Staff: EXTREMELY helpful and welcoming. Atmosphere:Solid. Cleanliness: Clean enough. Perfectly satisfactory. Value: ~$30 for a double room? Excellent. Facilities: no hot water, flushing problems too.

We had the room right next to the common area, which was very loud and it was difficult to asleep. Aside of that, everything was great.

Urbano does its best, and the best, is that they aren't aiming 'just to be the best', so there's always room for improving. Clean enough (bathroom had stains), friendly, wifi reliable, location kind of good for partying (not my goal)

Very well staffed -- they were professional, well trained, and always at the desk when reception was open. The accommodations were pretty basic but not bad for the price. When we were there, all of the guests seemed glued to a computer screen so it's hard to say the place had great atmosphere. If you're just looking for a place to stay in San Jose for the night before/after a flight, as we were, consider staying in Alajuela rather than paying the $30 to come all the way out.

I never had such a good stay at a hostel. More people should experience Hostel Urbano's atmosphere of a second home/ home abroad! I am very happy for having stayed at your place! =)

As all the reviews before have suggested, this place is a gem. Friendly, helpful staff, good homely atmosphere and situated in tasteful eastern suburbs with array of good food options closeby. Great for those reluctantly traveling through san jose en route elsewhere.

Clean, big, comfortable rooms. TV room is awesome with cable and lots of movies. Huge kitchen with all the necessary facilities and free pancake breakfast. Close to a big shopping centre, food outlets, bars, restaurants etc and next to the university so nightlife nearby is pretty good. Staff are very nice and mix in with the guests. Wifi worked on and off.

This hostel is located in San Pedro, part of San José, and a straight shot by numerous buses. The bus stop is only 50 meters from the front door. The staff is extremely helpful to the guests; very cheerful and welcoming. It was the best hostel welcome that I've ever received! oThe breakfast (pancakes) wasn't hot when I went to eat it. The area around Hostel Urbano is safe. I even walked there from downtown (2.5 km) -- no problem. There's a mall and other eating options within 300 meters.

nice place, friendly staff, not the best place to make a ton of friends, but the location was good, right by the university and there are buses everywhere to take you where you need to go or taxi's aren't that expensive. hostel was nice and clean with tons of information about tours and different places to go and see in central america. i would defiantly stay here again

One of the cleanest and chicest hostels we've stayed in. The staff is by far as friendly as they come, and they helped us out with anything they could. They also make pancakes for you and have very strong coffee to wake you up. We felt very comfortable and it was quiet and just a great place to stay. I wish we could take this place with us wherever we went. Thanks for the comfort Hostel Urbano!

This hostel was very nice. It has new pine bed frames with comfortable mattresses and toilet paper you can flush! It was a good place to stay, especially since its in the university neighborhood. Also, the girl at the desk in the evenings has a very cute voice as we'll as being very helpful.
