Great first place for a solo traveler to meet some folks. Its in a good/safe part of town near university area. Supposedly this is a good area to go to a bar or two as well as a solo traveler and remain safe compared to other parts of san jose. very friendly staff. I made friends with other guests... good pool table, I used the kitchen and theres a nice back yard.

We loved this hostel!!! We stayed here one night on our way into the country and 2 nights on the way out. The staff is so pleasant and helpful!!! They make you breakfast and coffee in the morning. They have a free pool table, a super cute puppy, very clean rooms and bath rooms and did I say the staff was SUPER helpful!? One of the ladies working the reception desk spent forever researching our options and letting us know the best way to get to Montezuma. She saved us a ton of money! Great Place!

Hostel Urbano staff were very friendly and helpful. The hostel was not that busy when I was there but there were people talking loudly at night and in the morning which made it difficult to sleep at times. San Jose is not that nice so better to stay in Alajuela if you only intend to stay close to the airport to go to another destination.

We are a family of four, husband , wife, 17 year old and 20 year old. We had 2 rooms, each with a bathroom. We had arrived on Christmas day from cold and snowy NY. We were very welcomed. Everything was clean and everyone was friendly and very helpful. We loved our stay. The breakfast was very good. The outdoor space was lovely. We played pool and had fun. Thank you very much for making our introduction to Costa Rica so great. We had a great visit!

One of the best 'hostel'-hostels we've stayed at. Very well-run by extremely helpful girls. They tell each other what's going on with the guests, so all staff can help you with your questions or whatever else you need. Very clean, a simple breakfast included. Would definitely go back here when in San Jose again!

I just spent two days at the Hostel but the care of the owner (Jane) was incredible. The hostel is a little old but have the but has the main facility for a trip like mine was pretty short.

MY favorite Hostel in Costa Rica. Lovely staff and hostel. Very home-like feeling. Cannot recommend this place enough. The Hostel is not at the center of the town - but the bus stopps at the door of the Hostel. Additionaly there is a mall next to the hostel as well as a place to take your loundry.

One of the best hostels I have ever stayed in, I cannot recommend this hostel enough. I stayed on three separate occasions, in a form and a private room. The hostel is really clean, has a very comfortable atmosphere, good breakfast, great facilities and also the most amazingly helpful staff who went above and beyond to answer any questions on transport, nights out etc. also stayed at Pangea and Van Gogh and Urbano was a lot better than either, DEFINITELY STAY HERE if visiting San Jose.

Urbano is ideally located embedded within the University of San Jose ambiance. The place is very clean, large rooms and dorms, quiet, and plenty of relaxing areas. The staff personality is warm and caring, very receptive. When departing I felt that I was saying goodbye to my new friends. The milieu is set by international backpackers, a few come to study at the University, a few come to develop their interest, but most come to enjoy their vacation. From this location buses will take you anywhere

Wonderful hostel with great hosts, atmosphere and location. While not located in the downtown it's very easy to get everywhere either by walking or just catching a local bus. The hosts are fantastic, always willing to help out with any questions you may have or help arrange any trips. It's a great home away from home and definitely worth staying at.

Thank you for your feedback! Hope you can stay with us some other time. We are located in the university district, only 10 minutes by bus from downtown SJ, you can catch the bus in front of the hostel to head into the city center.
