More like a hotel; but that also means you're getting hotel level facilities for the price of a hostel. Bathroom, beds, bed lamps, towels provided; facilities wise it's a very very comfortable stay. NO KITCHEN, but the other facilities almost make up for that. Two mins from the Rijksmuseum, but about a 20 minute walk from city center. Great for art enthusiasts who are there to see the van gogh and rijksmuseum.

Great hostel - friendly staff, above average bathroom facilities and the common areas were almost always spotless. Breakfast was an absolute steal for the price (5 EUR if I remember correctly). Really enjoyed my stay and would recommend to anyone visiting Amsterdam!

I stayed for 2 days, its really a good little hotel, clean nice rooms, very secure, great showers. They do a €5 breakfast buffet, fantastic value its from 7.30 am to 11.30, super for late raisers. The location could not be better across the road from the Van Gogh Museum, all the sites easily walkable, very safe, quiet location as well as its not very near all the bars and clubs, but they are no further than 10 - 15mins walk. I will stay there again

Nice stay. Clean room, clean bathroom. Better than a 4-star hotel I'd stayed in Istanbul. Helpful staff. Definitely recommend it.

Overall I think this place is great --Pros: free towel! in a great neighbourhood by Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh museum, & Leidseplein. free TV in rooms and digital safe. nice bathroom. staff were all friendly – with 1 exception. Cons: hot water was sometimes all used up -- my first 4 showers were cold water. others said the same. the Asian gentlemen, everyone agreed was not so nice (he might be the owner). he seemed to be not as accommodating once he found out im booked in hostel, not the hotel part.

We found the staff to be very rude and incredibly unhelpful. It took us at least 15 minutes to check in because the receptionist kept taking calls and then arguing with the people on the phone. He eventually hung up on one person and then was even more rude with us. The other staff that we encountered were not very helpful and none too friendly when we asked them questions. The rooms were comfortable and the shower in our bathroom was excellent when it had hot water--unfortunately that was rare.

The staff was friendly and helpful, answering several questions. Their breakfast buffet was reasonably priced and good, with fresh fruit,; their croissants were freshly baked and very good. The room and bathroom were very small, spotless and were just fine. The hostel was very convenient to several major museums, and it was extremely quiet - I was on the top floor. It had a small elevator, a real plus when I was dealing with my luggage.

Great area, the staff was nice, the only problem I have was that the towels were soiled upon my arrival---the staff replaced them immediately but the deed was done/

The Hostel (or hotel actually) is very nice - the location, the stuff. Good and chip breakfasts, the ability to walk around most popular and famous places even at night - near the hostel is a tram stop and the walk to the old town take about 15 minutes. Also a big market near the hotel - if U want to save some money and buy food by yourself. I’ll come back! See U in Belarus also!

GThe hotel is under renovation. And the painting smells a bit. But the renovated room is clean and good. BTW. the WIFI is too difficult to find for my iphone on the top floor. And the location is great with reasonable distance to the attractions and railway station.

Amsterdam on weekends is too expensive! So, the Van Gogh wouldn´t be different! But despite the price, the hostel is great...it seems that it used to be a regular hotel, and they changed for hostel some rooms!

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely be staying again when i visit Amsterdam. Not too far away from the centre at all and close enough that a tram isn't necessarily needed. I always enjoy meeting and staying with different walks of life in hostels and Hotel Van Gogh for sure provided this.
