Chinese guy at reception in the daytime abrupt and appears rude and doesn't make eye contact but gives you the facts you need. Internet dickey. Rooms ace and lockers in rooms are a bonus! A far (but nice) walk from the centre though it is very peaceful in the high fashion/museum quarter. Laters.

Van Gogh is truly more like hotel than a hostel - which I didn't mind. The rooms were really clean, staff was friendly and the breakfast was excellent. The only negative thing was the slightly remote location from the downtown. Besides that I was satisfied with Hostel Van Gogh.

No bar. Very disappointed in the lack of communal party space. Otherwise fine. Good location

This hostel is great if you want a quiet, clean, comfortable, relatively inexpensive space to stay. On those counts, it's a pretty good deal. If you're looking to for a hostel with atmosphere or a place to meet, people, though, I would suggest you look elsewhere. It's a pretty sterile place, with no common areas except for a cafeteria-style dining room. The staff were very helpful in terms of helping us figure out a (complicated) booking, but not helpful in terms of advice related to the city.

Very clean, upmarket vibe. It felt like a hotel where you shared a room with other people.

Probably the cleanest hostel I've stayed in and everything is new and shiny. The flip side to this however is that the hostel is almost completely lacking in character and there is little interaction amongst guests or any true common area/bar or activities offered. It is in a nice area and close to the museums but a fair walk to the main part of the city. Staff were ok but occasionally had a bit of attitude for no reason. Overall though perfect for if you just want a comfortable place to stay.

The stairs( like many in the Netherlands) are scary. The lift keeping breaking down so it was quite frightening dragging your overweight bag up the stairs on the corners that have no step to speak of, nor a bannister. If it was my business, Id definitely install a bannister. The room was very stylish.- thank you! The aroma of marijuana made me thinking of the smoking hazard? Shame the Van Gogh museum is closed at the time I was staying, as that was going to be convenient.

Although the hostel was 20 bike-minutes away from the city center it was very accesible from there. It is pocated in one of the best quarters in amsterdam. Everythig was pretty good there, I totally recommend it.

One of the best hostels I've been to in terms of cleanliness. The hostel is more like a hotel and is almost spotless. Lovely neighborhood as well; the only thing that I could mark down for this hostel is that the staff could have been much friendlier. I never paid for the breakfast so I can't say anything about that, but the dining facility was huge and had a TV for viewing while you ate. Not the best hostel for meeting people, but if you have a set group, or want to travel solo, it is perfect.

Was ok. I've definitely been in better hostels for cheaper. The rooms were nice just depends on the people you share a room with really. Location was ok. I love to walk and it still was a little ways away from everything. Breakfast was decent but not included. Just be mentally prepared that your in Amsterdam and people will be coming in all hours of the night drunk, high, on mushrooms, etc. Wifi didn't work for last 2 days. Would personally prefer a no-alcohol in hostel policy.

This hostel was immaculate as far as cleanliness goes. The bed was really comfortable and there were plenty of outlets. The room had its own bathroom, which was great, and the shower was very nice. The 5 euro breakfast was great! Not the best location if you want to easily wander home drunk from Leidseplein. Staff was quite cold and seemed eager to get you away from their front desk and on your merry way. You will hear the kids playing outside from the nearby school. Overall, a very nice hostel.
