This hostel was very impressive in comparison to other ones that I have visited. It was very well managed and operated by the owner, who is a very friendly and nice person to talk to. It was well kept, clean, comfortable, and breakfast was good as well. I definitely recommend it!

We stayed for one night at Hostel Van Goh and it started well...however a couple of Xbox games went missing close to midnight & the manager came into our room (4 of us were asleep because we had to be up at 3am to catch a flight), turned on the light & insisted on us unlocking & completely unpacking our bags so that he could go through them. Unacceptable. I understand that he was just trying to smoke-out the culprit - but calling the police and waking up the entire hostel was ridiculous.

This hostel was amazing. We stayed in a canvas tent with a double bed, which was really nice (has two outlets, a ceiling light, and a trash bin), but the bar across the street (Rockocos) was so loud it was hard to sleep unless you were drunk or had earplugs. So I would recommend the dorm over the tent. The staff was amazing (Alan and Freddy rock and have impeccable English- I didn't speak a lick of Spanish). The pool is great and there is this great in pool bar. Great activity suggestions

I don't think I've ever rated a hostel this highly before. David (the owner) is extremely helpful and I'll be staying here the next time in San Jose. The atmosphere was calm and socializing is encouraged, but partying was generally taken elsewhere. David helped my friend and I plan our entire trip!

Second stay in this hostel in spite of the numerous other hostels in San Jose. It says it all... I will definitely come back here if I happen to be in the capital again.

This place is awesome to relax and chill out. David was very helpful and was always looking to go beyond his job to help out. The place is pretty cool looking too. Not really for party goers, more for someone who wants a bit of peace and quiet. Highly recommened.

David is a great host! Would definitely stay here again. He can easily reserve a $13 airport shuttle to and from hostel Van Gogh, can't beat that

This was a fantastic hostel. David, the owner was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The place was very clean, peaceful and friendly. David makes each guest eggs and toast for breakfast. He is really dedicated to the place. We are grateful for his advice and hospitality. The beds were pretty comfortable for bunkbeds. We have absolutely no complaints! Great Place to stay and definitely a steal for $13 per night.

Stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. David is very knowledgeable about what to do/see in CR. He treats his guests with respect and is a very trustworthy individual. I've already recommended this place to fellow travelers who will be passing through San Jose. It's not a party hostel but if you're looking for peace

Very well maintained. The management was friendly. The shower was a little dirty but otherwise fine. Our only complaint was that when we asked for driections to the bus stop, the staff failed to inform us that the route would take us through the most dangerous part of San Jose! After walking about 4 blocks, Many locals were advising us not to go any further. Another backpacker wanred that he had been mugged in the area.

I highly recommend this Hostel. This Hostel is pretty much a one man operation run by the owner Dave. He is very friendly, will help you with whatever you need and will even personally make you breakfast everyday. Very clean and great layout for the common area.

High quality hostel in a very nice location near colourful parks, main attractions and pedestrian street. Charming architecture with lots of character, the inner courtyard is a real paradise, perfect to chill, play pool, have a quick relaxing tan, a good breakfast or socializing with guests. Then not a party hostel but definitely not a dead place. Rooms are cosy and beds are comfortable. The whole hostel is reguarly cleaned by David, the owner, who is a real bless for who ever need good advices.

This hostel is run by incredible people! David is the most caring and helpful hostel manager I've ever encountered. He made countless phone calls and bookings for us, and gave good recommendations. He's the one who makes the (great) free breakfast in the mornings! He definitely was the main reason that the hostel was so great. The kitchen and rooms were nice. This is definitely not a party hostel, though, so keep that in mind! I would definitely recommend it for a one-night stop!
