This was the best hostel we've ever been to. Reasons: - Very nice staff, always helpfull we could even borrow the boss' ipad. - The breakfast is wonderful, even better than the hotels we've been to. - The location, on the main square is extraordinary. Inside is calm, outside you have ambiance. When we arrived they proposed us to go to their other new hostel in Progreso, at the sea. That hostel is not yet finished, but has the same character, breakfast, ... It will also be a superhostel.

Hostel Zocalo was a really great place to stay. The location was ideal, the rooms were clean, the staff was very friendly and accomodating, and the free morning breakfast was the best hostel breakfast I have ever had. They actually cook and clean for you. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone traveling to Merida.

Was an wonderful place. Nice location, just in the middle of a beautiful city, absolutely secure. The hostel is very clean and the cost is very fine. Also, they have an amazing staff that is always there for helping you and making you feel comfortable.

Superb breakfast buffe!!! Best so far on our 4 month trip. Big and good kitchen to cook your food! Our private room wasn't a real room. It was very tiny.

The best thing about this hostel was the location and the price was accessible. However, the staff was quite grumpy and the room that we got didn't really fulfill our expectations (pics on the webpage). The bed sheets had holes and were stained. Taking a shower turn out to be quite an adventure (the temperature constantly changing from extreme boiling hot to freezing cold. Breakfast was nice and cozy (they prepare crepes and omelets straight on your plate :))

The only thing I did not appreciate was the tolerance for smokers, who were allowed to smoke inside the premises.

I think they should have more facilities for locking the luggage. There were few lockers in the common area and you have to bring your own lock. The dorm where I stayed had no key since it was on the way to the common bathroom, therefore there was always traffic of people in the room.

The breakfast is really nice. There are many kinds of fruits and hot omelette! The location is so nice!! The only disadvantage is that the air in our room is not circulating since we live in the basement

Excellenty located on the Zócalo (main plaza) and with very helpful and friendly staff. They offer a cheap laundry service and wifi, but you have to pay to use a computer if you're not travelling with an iPad, laptop, whatever, like most people seem to do these days. The breakfast is outstanding and probably the best I've ever had in a hostel. Good value for money.

best breakfast in a hostel ever!!!!! i really really love it. but if u can't sleep in noise, ask them for a room not along side the street. the 5 ppl in my group all failed to fall in asleep the first night there but fortunately they changed us to a quite one the next day. Oscar is especially helpful and we thank a lot to him.

I had to change my reservation, so I emailed both Hostelworld & Zocalo more than two days in advance. When I arrived, they had no reservation for me, and therefore no room. They put me in the shared dorm for the night, which was basically an open room that with a shared bathroom that dozens of people used. There was constant traffic through the dorm room. By 7am, 2 of the 4 toilets were clogged and it was obviously crowded. I got a private room the next night.

A good place to meet other travelers and to stay right in the historical centre. The staff were friendly, and served up a great breakfast amidst a riot of mulitlingual conversation. We were in a small double room in the lower floor, which made it quiet from the street. Shower was hot, the bed was firm and the sheets were Calvin Klein! That has to be a first in my hosteling experience. In all the Hostel Zocalo is good value on a budget.

I was booked a private room with bathroom for myself, but there is no window in the room. So, I required to change to other room. Staff has helped me to find another room ( a triple private room and share bathroom). There are already 2 people staying there, but the staff has charged me the whole room price (330MXN / nite). While check-out, roommates told me that they paid 160MXN / nite only. POOR !! up to now, the staff has not replied why I need to pay double than others.

The private room was tiny but adequate for a night. The breakfast was awesome, crepes and omelette made to order and an abundance of fruit, cereal on offer. The security of the dorms was nil, they are located in the main hallway towards the bathrooms (so people walk past your bed to go to the bathroom). The mens bathroom was rundown and in need of repair.
