Very far from the center of Moscow but the value for money is great! It is interesting that many people are actually living in this hostel for months!

People who are used to western European cheap hostels shouldn't compare them with Russian hostels in that price group. We changed the hostel after the first night.

Don't be deceived by the pictures they post here! The hostel is very tiny, old, dark and shabby. They have their alliances --among guests (and staff) that's been staying there forever- to which you are not really welcomed. Instead of a warm welcome from the staff you get suspicious looks. The kitchen is small and poorly equipped.

First of all, the value for money is unbeatable. The hostel is pretty far away from the centre of Moscow, but that's allright. Staff speaks little english but tries to help you in case of any question. The other guests staying in the hostel could provide is with information as well. Our room was nicely decorated and the whole hostel was pretty good painted and we really felt like in soviet times. Only the beds are horrible (no matresses). Only 1 shower and 1toilet is another thing. I'd recommend

Small yet very cozy and welcoming, staff members are extremely helpful and with a sense of humor! Decorations from USSR times throughout the hostel actually provide a scene of staying in museum. Which is quite innovative, never had we came across hostels similar to Hostel-museum Red Star. Finally, value for money is obvious, with a sophisticated metro system we could get to any part of Moscow from the hostel without breaking a sweat! Bottom line - Hostel-museum Red Star is the place to stay

Might be chaotic, but staff is fast at problem solving (night disturbers kicked out, broken shower changed in 24 hrs); ice skating rink, supermarket, pharmacy and bank behind the corner; 10 min walking to the metro; can host up to 20 guests but there's only 1 toilet and 1 shower. Rooms are decorated, kitchen is well equipped although small. I definetly suggest it.
