An unusual hostel in a fine location. Wifi spotty in the rooms upstairs but good in the downstairs lounge by reception. Dorm rooms small with no ac and not enough ventilation on a hot day. Kitchen well-equipped. Private bathrooms work well but need a couple more for the busy times in the morning. Great online price for a San Diego hostel. Overall, location and price make up for the deficiencies. A good buy.

Good: Price, location, close to grocery and restaurants, easy to find Bad: Stairs, hard to negotiate with luggage, no elevator, small rooms, NO a/c, very hot even with windows open and ceiling fan running full blast. Small bathrooms, but to be expected. Lots of late night noise, including running in the halls and loud conversations. Okay: Staff did what they could, but few of them and a lot of clients. Given the limitations of the building itself, they did what they could.

The Hostel is quite cheap and it's located directly in San Diego Downtown where many clubs and bars are. So if you're on vacation and want to get a convenient and inexpensive accomodation this is the right place to stay. Only the beach is a bit far, by bus you need round about 45 minutes to get there.

The hostel is in a great location. With a little injection of money it could be a great hostel. The rooms were incredibly hot. I have stayed in lots of hostels and never experienced this. There was no breeze at all. This impacted on our stay and we couldn't wait to get out of hostel. Often it was cooler outside. It is likely you will have to wait for a bathroom too. I wouldn't stay here again.

You get what you pay for. The location is extremely good but that's about it. At first glance it looks good until you compare it to other stays for the same value. The Internet is always down or not connected. You have no signal in your dorm nor in the kitchen as they indicated. It's the least they can offer to guests. Their is an 'of'f smell as you go upstairs which is bothersome. The mattress is really in comparison and no lockers are offered inside. I wouldn't return nor recommend to anyone.

the manager of this hostel was rude and unhelpful and took half an hour to check me in

Staff was creepy and rude. Also rooms were uncomfortably hot. You get what you pay for. Only perk is the location. Right in the heart of downtown San Diego.

The hostel was fine, since it was cheap. The only problem is that they charged our room twice on our bank account, so we called them and waited for the money back. After we got them back, they charged the room AGAIN!! That's was an annoying and repetitive mistake!

I've stayed in many hostels in San Diego and this was by far my worst experience. It was awfully hot in the rooms, everything felt sticky and closed in. I'm glad I only spent one night there. The young lady at the front desk was very unhelpful and gave wrong information.

The hostel is the best one I've stayed in. Perhaps the low cost attracts people who are more easy going and open to interactions with fellow travelers. The lobby made it easy to be distracted or meet new people with its wide selection of games (ping-pong, billiards, etc.) and entertainment equipment. The location is right where night life is most active in San Diego and a few blocks from museums and other attractions.

Pros: Excellent location just a few mins walk from the gaslamp district where lots of bars/restaurants are located. Cheapest hostel in San Diego. Big kitchen, free breakfast with cereal pancakes & coffee. Lockers available to store away valuables outside of rooms. Staff are very helpful, despite giving off a weird vibe at times. Cons: Can get stiflingly hot in some of the rooms. Seriously need to invest in some air con units! Fans provided don't do much to cool rooms down.

This was the PERFECT option for staying in SD during my conference. It was quite close to the places we wanted to go for meetings and dinners with clients but also close enough to the conference center that I didn't have to wake up early to get to the first slots of presentations. The staff is a mixed group, James does a fantastic job making sure all who cross his path know how special they are and Chris has a good heart. The other staff is just passing through and don't care much for working.

Hostel on 3rd is the best hostel in San Diego. Just a block from the best downtown grocery store, the Gaslamp district, and two blocks to Horton Plaza shopping mall. The owners take a hands-on approach to management so everything is always clean and you'll never run out of things like towels, soap, etc. The pancake breakfast is great and plenty of good coffee! Best of all are the friendly people you'll meet from all over the world.

This could be a great hostel. The location is perfect but it is badly let down by a couple of members of staff. Chris in particular is very rude and seems to have contempt for the guests. One girl slammed a door on us when we were outside. Also, there are no activities/tours/nights out run by the hostel. They're happy to take your money and then leave you to it There are much better hostels in downtown San Diego.

The location is really good if you are looking for the nightlife of San Diego... also really easy to get from/to airport. Pros - Location - Price Cons - The bed is really really noise. Any movement you can wake up the other guests if you care about it; - to access the building you do not pass the reception and only requires a access code, feels a little unsafe; - No big lockers for you stuff. There is a small one outside the room but does not even fit a tablet if you need;

Booked to stay here for three nights but ended up rating a week. When we added more dates to our stay they were very accommodating and sorted the rooms so we didn't have to keep moving. The owner and another gentleman were really friendly and were aways making sure everything was ok for us. They were very helpful. Great value for money compared to a lot of other hostels in the area. The kitchen needs to be a little bigger as there is only one cooker, but this wasn't much of a problem.
