Was a good hostel, the dont let you drink in the hostel but you can just sit outside and have a few beers.

It's a good place to stay despite being a little way from the city. The buses are cheap. Has everything you need and a comfy bed, good common area and tv.

As with all HI hostels, it is clean, secure and in a pretty good location. However, if you want to go out for a beer and dance with women, you'll need to do it outside the hostel.

Our stay at HI-Austin was great. We spent Christmas and New year there. The hostel offered a free Christmas dinner which was lovely and the night out that followed was one to remember! The staff were friendly and kind especially when I was ill and I was allowed to stay in bed rather than leave the room for the cleaners. Overall a great stay nothing but good things to say about it!

Loved this place, everything you would want in a hostel: great cozy common area, clean, super spacious airy rooms, awesome staff and great vibe

It's a little out of town, but the buses are easy. I was there in winter, so the weather wasn't great. I would love to be there in summer and drink some beers on the grass by the river. The staff were super friendly, and had some great tips about seeing some local music.

A decent place to stay in Austin - a little out of the action in terms of downtown, but a good hostel with nice facilities.

For me breakfast starting at 8 has been a little too late, but it is probably fine with most people. The staff was very friendly and helpful, bathrooms were clean.

This was my first US hostel and overall, it was a great experience. It helped that I had a rental car (and parking was free and never a problem) to get around, although, there are buses so it's not impossible to get around. Beautiful view of the river and friendly/helpful staff. Spacious common area with free wifi and free bread from a local bakery every morning. Super close to the airport, too!

In a nutshell: cleanliness and security is really good; character, location and fun really bad! People in my room where incredible loud (also the ones that came another day) and unfriendly, nobody wanted to get to know each other, had no respect which resulted in nights of almost no real sleep, common room was always almost empty. Location is 45 min walk to downtown, 15min to bus, but is not the nicest area to walk to the hostel from the bus at night. Overall average.

This hostel is do-able... quite a decent place with OK staff (though the tall guy wasn't very keen to help) & clean-ish bathrooms. The rooms are a bit stuffy but OK. Good kitchen & common area with free computers. The major let down with this place though is location, which is terrible! Getting into town or the SoCo area requires transport. It's a pretty long walk to the closest bus stop, the buses run infrequently and take about 20 minutes. Also the girl's showers aren't very private.

To far away from all the action of downtown. But no other hostels in Austin to choose from. Beds need updating. My girlfriend had the most springy mattress ever. It was ridiculous.Nice big TV room upstairs for chillin watching Dvd's when hungover after a night out on 6th street. Choose the 12 bed dorm if you want space as the room is huge. The 6 bed dorm was very small and cramped!!
