A great hostel in a great city. Best thing I found about this hostel is the location, it's right next to Ladybird Lake and a spectacular view of the Austin skyline, especially at night when all the buildings are lit up. There are beavers, turtles and all sorts of exotic creatures around this hostel (not to mention the guests). The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and when all's said and done, it's one of the better HI's I've staid at. I would recommend this hostel to anyone.

The staff couldn\'t have been more helpful. I had a great time in Austin and my stay at the HI Austin was the icing on the cake!

Great place to crash at night quiet, open, friendly. Make sure to rent a bike and have it delivered if you don\'t have transportation (getting around is a little difficult otherwise).

Had a blast here. Really good people were staying. Staff recommended some great things. Security is good. Right on the river which is great if you want to kick back as well.

My daughter and I enjoyed our stay at this hostel. The staff was very helpful and meeting people from all over the world was fun. It was a bit far from downtown but we took the #7 bus which took us straight to the capitol, which was our goal visit spot. The people in Austin were very friendly. It was a good visit. Could use a little more privacy in the shower area.

Outdoor lounge chairs would have been kick ass. Overall great place. Free pancakes and coffee was a great offering.

The staff wasn\'t always at the front desk. I had to search them or come later again. The Location is a bit outside of downtown. The prices for a night are higher than usual. I paid less for better hostels. The bathroom was poor. the showers are kind of open and the toilets are very small.

This hostel is run down and dilapidated... Rooms were too hot at night and everything was dirty. Not a very enjoyable stay, deffinetly won't recommend to friends...

I enjoyed the hostel in Austin. The staff were really cool and very helpful. Free pancake breakfast is a must. The wake up call at 10:30 wasn't great, but it's good motivation to go out and enjoy Austin. The bathroom was always clean although the showers lacked a bit of privacy, but it's easy enough to get over. The

My sinus got to really bothering me there. I think maybe the air conditioning filter needed changing. It\'s by a lake, and it may build up frequently with mold. It had a wonderful \"family\" atmosphere and very helpful staff. Karaoke may be good on nice weekends around the couches. People at the same time could introduce themselves and where they are from. When I had a prob with the TV, the staff came right up - but good written instructions would have been better. Good experience overall.

I enjoyed my stay at the hostel very much! Everything was clean and the bed and the pillow were very comfy. The staff were nice and answered any questions I had. It was easy enough to find off the 7 bus line. The only downside was that the walk from the bus stop to the hostel seemed a bit sketchy in the daytime, so after dark I took a cab. The buses don't run very late anyway.

It's an OK place, just very far out of any points of interest. Not a lot of people, and for some reason you're not allowed to drink on the premises.

HAD SOME FOOD BROKEN INTO AND MY JUICE NOTICEABLY TAMPERED WITH REPLAY OF THE TAPES WOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE CULPRIT AND MADE STAY UNCOMFORTABLE BUT PREVENTION IS THE BEST OPTION . HOW OTHER THAN LOCKER I HAVE NOT COME UP WITH IDEA ESPECIALLY WHEN WERE TALKING ABOUT PERISHABLE ITEMS.

This hostel is old, filthy and uncomfortable. There is a damp, heavy pungent smell that permeates in the dorms that gave me nausea. I could not pin it down to why, but it could be to leaky plumbing or filthy rugs in dorms. The building should be seriously inspected and possibly torn down. There are also way too many beds inside the dormroom. I was not the only one who was uncomfortable with the smell. One other person got out of her dorm just like I did because we could not sleep.

A really nice hostel with lots of character looking out at Ladybird Lake and relatively (although not walking distance) close to the SoCo and downtown. Lots of space, comfortable. Encourages friendly people and a chill not party hostel. I would highly recommend it.
