Everything was fine about this hostel, good staff, facilities, rooms etc. Lots of social activities. But it's just a bit too big to have the same sort of friendly character that I love about smaller hostels.

The only issue was the air conditioning in the room. Room 412 - wasn't working very well, so got real hot and stuffy at night (especially when you've got 12 people sharing a room).

Check out is 11am. I was in my room at 9:45am. Two male custodians and one female came into the room unannounced and began stripping the beds, while I was still in the room getting ready. I asked if they could wait until I was out of the room they stopped and remained in the room , watching me until I packed up my belongings and moved to the bathroom to continue getting ready. I found this situation to be rude and intrusive. Everything else was fine, but this put a bad taste in my mouth.

This was really the best hostel I\'ve ever been. I can just recommend to everyone going there. The only small downside is, that it is a little bit far away located from downtown. Thanks good subway connection it\'s alright, only during night, when no express trains are running anymore.

Very well placed, the hostel is close to Central Park and to the Museum of Natural History. The rooms and the bathrooms are very clean and the cafeteria downstairs is very convenient. I also went on a Grand Tour and everything was perfect : New York in a 14hour tour, what an experience! I definitely recommand HI New York and don't hesitate to go on a tour or on a pub-crawl!

Hostels need to be cheaper than hotels and need to be flexible in something. International Hostelling is very good but, is very expensive. Check in just at 3pm and entrance just 4pm is very bad! I had been in airplane and immigration procedures por more than 14 h and staff of HI did not allow me enter in room before 4 pm!

We thought it was ok maybe a little too big I you want to meet people have fun, everyone keeps to themselves. We didn't like the whole place had too many security cameras felt like they watch people to much! The surrounding area was ok until we were followed one night probably felt more secure in the city if we stay again in new York. Loved the bagels ;-) The rooms were clean would have appreciated being in the room with younger people and on the same bunk as we were separated.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. And there are many areas in the hostel to chill out and relax. The cafe was cheap and offered a great selection of breakfast items.

Great staff, well laid out hostel, went out of their way to support cyclists for the Five Boro Race. Planning to make this my regular place when I stop through NYC.

Staff were a bit rude, there were a few exceptions, but overall, most of them don't know how to smile. Its actually easier to smile than to frown people!
