The suroundings are not so nice but once you are through the door everything lights up. The doorhandle in our room was a bit hard to open though.

This hostel is in the WORST location anyone could ever imagine. If you value your safety stay elsewhere

Sure, when I showed up near midnight the street was full of drunk-ass sketchbags smoking weed and there was a prolonged group fistfight audible through the window on the second night, but the actual hostel once you're in the hostel is great! They have everything you could possibly want. I kept getting 'haunted' vibes in the hallways, which was a definite plus. This is a place with character which in this case is not a synonym for old and dirty. Great reno, adding amenities while retaining charm.

This hostel is actually transgender-friendly without knowing: there are private bathrooms on each floor that anyone can use, so you don't have to use the shared (not so clean) bathrooms. It's worth waiting, or pick a time in the evening, since they're usually occupied.

Location was great because of the ride free zone, rooms and bathrooms were nice and clean except that the door handle of my room didn't work properly which made it difficult to get in and out of the room (and at night woke up the room mates). Breakfast was good too (but ended too early!). I wasn't really happy with the staff though - when I arrived they were kind of "unfriendly" and I felt like I was just another guest checking in. Even though it's a hostel I want to feel "special" as a guest.

Arriving at night, I was initially put off by the run-down nature of the neighborhood and entrance. However, once I managed the stairs with heavy duffel, things improved, although there was an initial confusion on the charges. But the room was clean, warm, and comfortable, with large locker, bathrooms were clean with plenty of privacy, and kitchen was large, and excellently equipped, so I started feeling better. Staff agreed to stash bags briefly after check-out at no charge.
