First and foremost, if you are a backpacker only coming to Otavalo for Saturday markets, do not stay at this hostel, it's far from town, not walkable with bags. Situated in a mountain setting and the staff are helpful. Rooms can get cold at night. There was no hot water in the dorm, maybe because no one was staying here and the gas hadn't been used. Breakfast was nice, though not filling. They charge $2 for a ride into Otavalo, not for the Saturday market. There are better options in Otavalo.
Location far from town centre but it has great view. Staff don't speak English. Owner speaks English but she wasn't always around. Dorm room and toilet were clean. Worth the price but a little confusion about tax as the confirmation i got from hostelworld clearly mentioned 'tax included' but because hostelworld didn't charge 12% deposit (because i have deposit from flexible protection) the owner charge me 12% tax.
Probably the most beautiful hostel I've stayed at. Very sweet owner and good food. A little far from the center but the owner offers rides. Only complaint is no wifi in the rooms.
This is a beautiful property to stay and cozy to relax. The beds are a bit uncomfortable and the location is a bit out of the way, but north it if you're visiting to relax or take day trips.
This hostel is a piece of paradise. I was looking for a place to get a way, escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and breathe. If you are just looking for a place to crash either before or after the weekend market, you would be better off staying somewhere in town. At Hosteria Rose Cottage, you get to experience breathtaking scenery (whether you're there in the day or the night), and superb hospitality.

Everything was fine until check out. This is when the owner spring an extra "12% tax". This was even after showing her the confirmation from Hostelworld stating that all taxes and fees are included. That kind of soured us on the whole place.

Don't let the location put you off - this is an amazing place to stay in Otavalo. It's a $3 taxi ride to/from the hostel, or a 30 min walk. If you're there on a Saturday a free transfer to the market is provided. Breakfast is excellent and for $7 you can buy a dinner in the evening - nice big portions too! Rosa, the owner is a lovely woman and goes out of her way to make sure you enjoy your tine there. There are a variety of hikes into the surrounding valleys clearly explained in the hostel too
If you want peace and quiet surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in northern Ecuador, this is the place to head. Its location a 15 minute cab ride from town seems to deter some travellers, i.e. it can be a feel empty, but the lively British-Colombian owners more than make up for that. The staff are also full of advice on local attractions, even going so far as to give guests free lifts into town. Only negatives are average evening meals and an under-equipped kitchen.
A hostel with so much potential but quite a few improvements needed to get there. When we arrived the lady offered us dinner for $7 and we were offered a large plate of food, she also said you could buy an array of drinks and snacks. When dinner came we were given a small plate of curry. We tried to buy drinks and the only soft drinks they had was a glass of coke. I asked for some water, and bearing in mind this hostel is 3km from the centre, they didn't have any drinking water, not even bottle
