The entrance is up an ally (and was difficult for our cab driver to find; signage could be a lot better - hint, if they take you to the Hotel Metropole, you are right around the corner!) but our room looked out over the Med Sea. The library is within walking distance - as is the Citadel if you want to walk a long the water. Alexandria was by far my favorite Egyptian city, so much more laid back than Cairo.

We had a sea view room, which actually delivered on the sea view (which was lovely). The beds were comfy, and the location was great for food and transport. It's about a 15 minute walk from the train station and close to buses for the rest of the beach side sights. The linens could have been a bit better, and our A/C was on the fritz but it didn't matter with the sea being so close. Overall a decent place to stay if you're on a budget- what you would expect in Egypt for that price.
