We reached the hotel and checked in and they told us our home is in a different hotel and gave us a little map to find it. It was only about 5 minutes away but for us it was a problem because we had a lot of bags and purposely chose a hotel that doesnt reauire us to cross bridges to reach it. On top of it it was about 38° that week so we were unhappy with the location for that reason. The room was fine once we reached it and even had a/c which saved the day. Clean and central.
Upon arriving in Venice, hotel 'atalinde' actually sent us to Hotel Basilea. I got the impression this is something they do a lot, and I don't want to know the reason why. Our whole stay felt very uneasy and dodgy. The staff were reserved and kinda weird. The shower was FREEZING cold and when we told reception, she said 'oh' then wrote it down, and nothing ever got fixed. We paid a lot for this, and we DEFINITLEY don't think it was worth the money. Breakfast was so average.
We were a bit astonished when we arrived at the hotel since we were sent to another one (they belong together) and even got our room in the other one. Never mind, we thought and climbed the stairs to our room. Once arrived, we only found one bed that was transformed into a bunk bed by pushing a button. We were a bit scared that it would collapse during the night - it didn't! 60€ for such a room is quite expensive (shared but clean bathroom on the other floor downstairs) but that's Venice.
When we arrived, the hostel was locked up. There were directions to a hotel around the corner and we were booked in there instead. The room I booked was a 'twin' and it was a store cupboard with a bunk bed in it. The bathroom, although very clean and nice, was a floor down from the room. The staff were helpful enough but gave us a Burger King map of Venice (not kidding!) which didn't even have all the street names on it. Close to the train station. Very expensive for a night in a cupboard.
Terrible. The smell of mold was terrible. Not just a little damp smell, but heavy mold stench, not leaving even with windows continuously open for 2 days. Cracks on the walls, torn linen and semi clogged shower complete the picture. The reception was at a different hotel, and the guy at the reception tried to charge the advertised free wifi. And all this for 100 euros per night for a double room. Simply the worst accommodation I have ever been to regardless of price. Add to that the price...

This place was beaten down and gross. Fix it up and advertise it for what it is.
