After reading some unfavorable reviews, I was wary of booking here but there were not a lot of options so we decided to try it-I am glad that we did, location is great, it is close to McDs and BK and public bus station 2 blocks away. Upon arrival, we were checked in by a friendly girl and she later allowed us to use the phone. Rooms are basic as expected, double bed, bathroom and fan. Wifi worked well. Had a great chicken sandwich from the bar. Would recommend for a night or two

We did not feel very welcome at our arrival. The girl at the counter should look for a job were she not has to deal with guests. The only reason we did not turn away looking for another place was that we already made a reservation and deposit via creditcard. Mario & Nayeli Weippert

Do not book online with this hostel. We booked in advance on hostel world and arrived in liberia to be informed by Hotel Guanacaste that they has no record of our reservation. We had a printed copy confirming we had paid for a reservation but they had no record of it and did not refund our money. While talking to others in Liberia we heard that this is a common practice at this hostel. They'll take online reservations but give away rooms if people come. Better options in Liberia abound.

I really like this hostel. I would definitely stay here again. Especially for it's location, right next to the bus station. It's cute, too.

No hot water (was advertised), unfriendly receptionist, dirty shower, stinking sink, big window in bathroom with no glass or securitybars, 2 day no wifi, laundryservice took an extra day (with out notice) wich was a big problem because of check-out on next day. When I complained to the staff, nobody reacted or gave a sh#t! Stay out of room nummer 7 (or don't go here at all)

The room was not really clean and the hotel is located in a dark, commercial area.

The hostel is in a good location close to the bus station and downtown Liberia. The attached restaurant makes it convenient for reasonably priced good meals. Easy to catch a bus to get to all the playas that are anywhere from 1 to 2 hours away.

The hotel is very basic, fine for an overnight stay. Very very small. The staff whilst they didn't speak much English were very friendly.

A basic place to stay. The staff is friendly, even if they don´t speak much English. Rooms were clean, but spare. Close to the bus station. The bar attached sells cheap beer.

the staff at hotel guanacaste are very friendly and helpful and this made our overall stay very nice. the hotel en suit rooms are very basic (that it's what we were expecting) but we had to repair the shower as it was almost completely blocked and water was not really flowing from it. there isn't really a communal room or kitchen where you can get to talk with fellow travellers and prepare your own meal, but there is a nice simple garden and a bar for quite cheap food.
