Helpful and fair staff. Wooden interior at reception looks good. Very quiet environment, but still close to center. We arrived at 2am, but could still book a tour for that day.
We decided to pay a little more to get a nice hotel in Puno for a break from hostels & also because there isn't much to do in Puno. However, it was not worth the extra cash as it turned out to be very expensive. We stayed an extra night that we didn't book through Hostelworld and they charged us 50% more at US$48/night for a double en-suite - several times more than we paid for similar/better hostels elsewhere (eg Cusco). Pleasant staff & we booked our island tours with them.
The hostel was nice as were the staff. The breakfast was also nice. The decor was a little funky and outdated, but overall the value was good.
