We enjoyed our stay at Hotel PetenChel. The location was fantastic as it was right off the bridge. The room we had was simple but serviceable. There was a large fan that worked really well. It was a little noisy at night and the lights in the hotel didn't go off until late. The beds were not the most comfortable either, but the price was excellent. We had breakfast at the cafe that was attached too and it was delicious.
Strange place. After we were not interested in buying "tickets economico" to Tikal from hostel we felt very unwelcome from owner and rest of the stuff. To be fare, the room was good size, clean and bed was comfy.
The hostel was spotlessly clean and the staff were very accommodating, helping us book a day trip to Tikal and shuttle to Mexico. It's perfect if you just need somewhere clean and affordable when visiting Tikal. No kitchen but the little cafe at the front made nice coffee and serves meals.
Hot water works. There is a water cooler with both cold and hot water available to use free for guests and glasses are akso provided. There is a tv but I never used it. The ceiling fan is very noisy but they have a floor fan in the room as well. It's located at the end of the bridge (entrance) of Flores, very easy to find. Flores is so small that everything is close to everything else. So food, laundry, travel agencies, etc are all nearby.
Staff was very helpful and friendly. Room was clean and comfy. Ate at on site restaurant, which was tasty. Wifi from the patio, not the room, which was fine as there are nice tables to sit at. Only downside is proximity to causeway, which is loud. But my room was quiet at night ( and I sleep like a rock anyway). Location is very convent for taxis and tuk- tuks. I spent three nights here and was perfectly content.
