very unfriendly welcome at the front desk, in general the staff was not friendly and we felt like they were watching and controled us all the time, no matter what we did. very unconvenient as the room does not have aircondition it was extremely hot and you could barely stay in the room. there was a big van but did not help much as it just blows around the hot air in the room. it is very cheap and maybe ok to stay 1 night to visit Tikal, but not longer

You can't beat Hotel PetenChel for a great, cheap option. There was always someone present at the front desk, and they even waited outside with us for our 4am bus to Tikal. The rooms were pretty clean considering it is so cheap. We did share ours with a gecko, but who doesn't like geckos? Gets pretty hot but honestly I would definitely recommend.

The reception is hard to find but he was always here in the early morning as all the buses schedule is fairly early.

The hostel is close to the bridge at the entrance to Flores. The lake is only 10m away, restaurants and bars nearby, is clean and good hot water too. Great value for money! It doesn't have the night life of other hostels such as Amigos. But it was excellent for what I needed. On weekends it could be a bit loud because of the bars nearby.

I stayed there for 2 nights. Staffs are all friendly, even though at 3:00 am he could wait for a bus at the door with me, and then see me off. After Flores I left for Belize, and will come back to Flores. I'll stay there again.

This is the second time that I have stayed at the Hotel Petenchel. It is, of course, not a fancy hotel, but it is entirely adequate. The plants in the courtyard are beautiful, and everything is clean. The staff has always been friendly and very helpful. My stay there was very pleasant.

The Private double we shared was clean and the bath room was decent, shower didnt get warm though, hasnt got any communal area to sit in really, laundry service was good though and across the road from the hostel is the lake itself, very pretty at sunset.

Decently clean, and good location. Had some confusing moments with the reception - either he tried to rip us off in booking transportation, or he just didn't know what he was talking about. Not sure which is worse. I think it is overpriced for what we actually got. The wi-fi was also very poor.

Our stay was short but very accomodating. The staff was extremely helpful, and not only ordered us a pizza but also woke up at 3:00 am to send us off on a our tour of Tikal

Very convienent location for us as we arrived at 6.20am off a night bus & departed early the next morning. The ADO bus stopped just steps from the hotel! They allowed us to check-in immediately which was great & unexpected as we arrived so early! Flores is a lovely town & a visit to Tikal is a must! Only downside was that there was no place to have breakfast before our bus left at 7.20am & the New Year's Eve street party just outside the hotel went on till 7am - not much sleep had but great fun!

Basic and clean room, very friendly and helpful staff although if you know a bit of Spanish. Wifi, water refills available. They charged my 1/2 of the price of a double for single occupancy, which was a bonus.
