they told us that the the deposit we paid when we booked was not a deposit but a booking fee. we had a very complicated conversation as we believed that we did not need to pay that part again and they said that they didn't get that money and so we were paying more because we booked through hostelworld. This is not what other hostels said. i would really like this cleared up as I didn't feel confident when booking through Hostel world again. thanks

Dear Liz, let me try to explain the payment structure a bit better: With booking online via hostelworld you receive a statement which shows room prices per person per night. On top of that hostelworld charges a very min service fee. This gives you a total amount of XY Rand. From this total amount a 10% deposit gets subtracted via hostelworld at time of booking online. This actually makes their living, fair enough... It leaves you with the end amount due to us on arrival (=90% of total), they call it "balance due" on the statement . If you please check, the amount you paid to us and the amount on the statement vary in a total of R 135,-. This is our minimum extra charge for 4 people having extra breakfast on 3 mornings ( = 11 rand per person.. you wont even find a cup of coffee for that anywhere in town, never mind a continental breakfast ;-)) as your original booking was self catering, means NO breakfast included.... If you feel this is unreasonable I gladly refund you the amount as we always strive our utmost to keep out guests happy :-) Just let me know. For the "complicated conversation" my apologies, all new beginnings are hard and my new intern maybe didn't make the payment structure as clear as it was wished for.
