A sober hostel which has what you need if you don't stay in the area for too long. The facilities are not upscale, but sufficient. It feels a bit like staying with a local family. This is emphasized by the family who owns it, who's around the house a lot and even has dinner in its lobby. Remarkably there is a translator who speaks good English and is helpful (as well as the manager in chinese) to help people with booking tickets and giving tips for the surrounding sites. Overall pleasant.

The best thing abouts this hostel is its owners. I mean, this is absolute hospitality, which more than compensates for everything else. Ask for a driver to ancient villages and have a dinner at Mr. Li's cafe, both are must.

Excellent staff and except for the fairly solid bed a great hostel - hard to find (but I was met at the station within 2 minutes of calling), but location is good due to speedy buses into town.

The live in manager does speak English but he's a nice fellow. Steve is the local translator (and owner of this and another hostel) and can sort out most problems. They will meet you at the train stn if you ask. Very close but hard to find until you have seen it once.
